I agree. I find building anything for the chickens is a lot of work. I just made a new set of nests. I only built four, all in one section, but it was a lot of work. I had to tear apart some pallets to get the wood. I think that was more of a job than building the nests.

Yep! I hope to get some this year or early next year at the latest. I put my chicks outside the day I got them last year. It was the first week of March. I kept them for 2 weeks in my DH's shop, then put them out in the brooder which was in the coop. I kept the Premier heat plate on them and they did great.
i have a love hate relationship with pallets. I get them for free and there is good wood but the amount of work to get it is almost not worth it. It is nice to be able to say everything we free and upcycled though. Also easier on the pocket book.

Easier on the pocket book, but not the body! I ended up cutting each end of the boards and prying the center up with a crowbar. It does ok, until you get a really nice, large board, and it splits!

I've got 3 left to dismantle, after that, I think I will be finished with pallets. They tire me out too much taking them apart.

Oh, I hear you! I use a saw and cut through the nails. The center is always the hardest part though. I'm just glad I don't have anymore additions to build. I still need to put a real roof on my newest part but the feed bag is working great right now so I'm not inclined to change it.

I usually just put my pallets together whole. I haven't built pallet coops for the new place, but, eight pallets makes for one heck of a little coop in the right condition.

It will be held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds on Airport Rd. in Conroe. It is all about birds. Whayever kind or breed you want. Usually is a big event. Held twice a year, first Sunday in May and the first Sunday in October. I am hoping to have a booth to show off my run panels. If you can make it, looking forward to meeting you and everyone else that comes.  :yiipchick

I'll look you up when we get there.

True, it is big enough, My wife can get in and I can close the lid. Needless to say, it was a heavy bugger to get from the porch where it was built and assembled and into the house. Until my 22 chicks come in, it is temporary housing for my kid's chicks. My son has an appointment to learn how to build from the older gentlemen next door. I am getting him involved in "shop" early before the school system does. They tend to do that late around here, which doesn't make sense since it is in the country more or less.

I took the babies outside for some exercise in the beautiful weather we had today. My two hens made the funniest looks and noises. Like "Where the heck did they come from". They showed some interest in the chicks for about 5 minutes and then went on about their free ranging. They did seem to show the chicks how to scratch.
