Texas

Welcome to BYC and Liberty Hill. I live in Liberty Hill too.
You can purchase no gmo feed at Winkley's on 29. The lady that makes it lives in Burnet. She sells chickens too. I have her info if you're interested.
I live just north of Coleman and about a year and a half ago actually drove to Burnet to buy geese because I wanted juveniles and there was a place there that sold them. I am planning on replenishing my laying flock of chickens and would be very interested in how to contact the lady you know in Burnet. You can PM me with the information if it is not too much trouble.
Thanks,

David,

Good news is the breeder I got my originals from is sending me chicks. I'll be meeting him next Friday in Tomball to pick up replacements free of charge. All I have to do is bring him guinea eggs, I just happen to already have three dozen collected. By next Friday he'll be over run with guinea eggs to set. LOL.

Trying to keep my chin up. John had to put me back together after I pieced all of my birds back and put them in the larvae bin. At least something will get use of them. I wont let them waste... I was tempted to bury them though.

Had a covey of Bobs come out and say hello to me an hour or so after I picked up carnage. So there's survivors to recover.

I'm still heart broken and convinced this place has a setback curse. Everytime we get a foot forward we're given a heavy load.
Oh man, I'm so sorry.
Hello all, newbie from the Panhandle here. Thank you all for the great advice and stories you post. I've been reading like crazy the past month, trying to learn all I could before I got my 4 pullets. Anybody else from the Panhandle?
welcome!

Fingers crossed. Added my 12 week olds to the coop last night. They are alive this morning. I really do not think Blondie would hurt them. She visited them from time to time in the workshop. I am going to let her free range today and keep the youngsters penned in the chicken yard.

Not exactly the Panhandle, 13 miles north of Coleman and 45 miles south of Abilene, but wanted to welcome you and wish you luck with your chickens.

If you are looking for GMO free feed, also soy free, check out Texas Natural Feeds and H and H Feeds. Both are Texas based companies, and I believe they have a retailer search on their websites. If I remember correctly H and H will even ship if you do not have a local retailer nearby. There are threads concerning both on BYC. I am using the Texas Natural Feeds currently. I have also used the H and H chick starter. I did notice an increase in the number of soft shells I was getting after switching over to the TX Nat Layer Crumbles from Purina Leyena, but my hens were not eating the oyster shell even though it was available. Used a reptile calcium supplement to get them back to normal, then started offering a mix of ground eggshells and the oyster shell. No problem since. For smaller chicks, such as bantams, I would recommend the H and H starter as it is ground more finely. TX Nat only comes in 50 lb bags, except the chick starter which they have in 5 lb bags also. H and H in 20 lb or 40 lb bags. Neither has a general flock feed.

Are these two a pelleted feed? How much per bag?

My cat eats them and then throws up everything an hour later. Anyone else having another rat explosion? We get them under control and then it rains and bam they come back out in force! My dogs are doing the best they can but cannot keep up. I don't dare let my cat outside since I live on a busy street.

However We do have some wild ones beyond my 5 pet ones. The more we clean up the yard the less stay around. My dad n I even fed some incase of nests. When we finally cleaned that area there WAS a nest with one older baby that ran off (old enough to breed n care for itself).

I've had pet rats before and love them. They are amazing pets, however that is where I draw the line. Pets are pets and wild are wild. I've had a friend get Hantavirus from wild rats in Korea and had to be MED EVACT to the states for treatment. Nasty stuff along with being dangerous to poultry and destructive.

Yes! I agree, however as we cleaned, they left. So we don't have a huge amount anymore like we did.
