My neighbors just listed their property for sale after 45 years of living there. They got to old to keep up and my husband and I had enough trouble getting our property cleaned up from the previous tenants to be very helpful when they needed help. They moved into a home, I think. She's got brain cancer and is in her 80s. They went the simple way.

I feel bad for whomever buys that place and isn't expecting what they're moving into. We've got so many birds its never quiet. Lots of snakes. We've killed two this month alone that were over five foot. One was in my ( forgot to latch the latches) quail pen one morning. Between the roosters ( of all types... We have more than just chickens) and screaming ladies ( peafowl ) they're going to hate life if they're not chicken friendly.

When someone does buy that place I plan on finding them enough fresh eggs to make them like us. Hopefully they come during the spring when we have grass! Th summer heat has burned away grass almost everywhere all around us.

Maybe they'll be dog friendly, too. Our LGDs are not by any means quiet. We're used to it. Old neighbors didn't mind them.

My husband says I'm over analyzing. I say I don't want to be enemies with someone I have to see every day.
Oh man, totally understand that one. Nothing worse than bad neighbors. We had some low income section 8 people next door to us. That was fun! I had to call the cops on them a few time for loud music and drugs. I don't want to be that guy but geez I have young kids! Come to find out most were on prole anyway and pop smoke when the police kept showing up. Thank goodness they are gone and we have some good neighbors now. I pray our other neighbors don't ever move.

We finally got tired of praying that our good neighbors would never move and bought this place. Our nearest neighbor is just over a mile away. The nearest "town" is 13 miles away. There are disadvantages of course but they are all out-weighed by the peace and quiet.

Our five year goal is to buy land with no neighbors. We have one now. They keep to themselves.

I can't wait for the day we are able to do that. It's going to be so nice but while we are in town I'm making the best of it. Lots of pool, gym and enjoying the neighborhood "pond" for fishing. That is our dream though to move out of town and not have to worry about neighbors. I'm hoping that 5-10 acres will be enough for us.

Just noticed one of my Barred Holland pullets comb and face is way more red than the other 2. Should not be long until I get my first egg from this year's chicks.

Guess I need to install the nest boxes in the pullet coop soon. Need to choose a nesting material though. I had planned on using hay, like I have been using with the hens. However the bail I bought from the feed store last week had what looked like turkey bits bailed in with it, needless to say that bail is not being used. So now trying to figure out what I am going to use. I know the hens prefer the hay to pine shavings. Any suggestions?

Pine needles are free. My girls love them.

Hmm, I may need to plant some pine trees then. Will look into it. We're in the Post Oak Savannah region, mainly have oak trees.

Plan is to try hand cutting the grass and laying it out to dry. Would like to find straw somewhere, but I have not seen that available locally even though I saw some oat or wheat crops being grown.

Going to burn the half of the bail, and use the other half as mulch in the garden.

How many acres is their property? We may be looking to buy soon and are wanting acreage and a place to raise our birds in peace. We like the noise of birds but not people.

Stelle, they have just under three acres. Surrounded by cows and trees. Cute older house, I think 3 bed, 2 bath. Car port, garage, two sheds. We wanted to buy it but they went through a realtor. They've done so much landscaping and two of the acres are hidden from the road. I can pm you pictures of you want.
