Texas

Mine too. I bet if I put a picture of it up and asked random people to guess where I am, they would guess Arizona or Utah.
I know, just 2 months ago everyone in Texas was begging for the rain to stop. Now we want it back. Also, that is a good idea. Bugs for chickens is about the one good thing about drought and heat!

We need to start running it too. Only issue is that it's too hot to go outside for even 1 minute! Well maybe I'm over - exaggerating but thats what it feels like sadly.
Nope, not exaggerating at all! It's too dang on hot all the time unless you are swimming. I give out frozen peaches to the chickens and frozen peas to the ducks. I usually dump and refill the duck pool mid morning and the ducks splash and play in the pool while the chickens lay in the cool moist dirty.

After thirteen years of loyalty and love. Never faltering protection. Devotion. Companionship. After thirteen years of being the best chicken herding dog and quail catcher. Thirteen long years, Titan has come to a point where we are having to make the decision to put him down. He's in so much pain every day it's just not fair. Half the time his back legs don't work. When they do he's up and going. Those days are fading fast. This will be our last few days with the big lug. We're going to fill them with love and steak dinners.

It will be hard. He was my last childhood dog and my longest companion. Here he is yesterday debating the stairs to the house. See his squat. I'll post more pictures later this week. He's the big red hound.

My whole family is making trips to see him.

The old man is just in to much pain to be selfish anymore. Took me several hours to get him up and going this morning. Ended in me getting bit because he hurt to bad to stand. I left him in his bed with breakfast and water.

Titan is a beautiful dog.I know it is,hard to let go of a special pet.

We have had consistently high 90's every day with a couple of 100+ days. Our grass is still green but you can see it fading. We are hoping for rain sometime, even just a little to water things. We have over 3 acres so watering is out of the question for us. Birds get frozen treats and an afternoon shower/mist for a will that they seem to enjoy. Ducks and geese get their water changed twice a day not since the splash so much out. But all that comes from our well which we are lucky is staying nice and wet with all the rain we got.

I know! The overly strict neighborhood I live in has a pool but everyone there is extremely rude and the older people that live where I am took away the 9ft area of the pool..i'd rather swim in the gator infested local lake! I have to keep my pekin inside and let her swim in the tub. Sometimes I wish I was a duck just so I could swim around in the summer.

All the more reason to live out in the country like we do. Our nearest town is 13 miles away and our nearest neighbor is a mile away. The only HOA we have to answer to is ourselves.

There's nothing hen left hear except a few pine trees. I never asked for the rain to STOP... I just asked for a few dry days.... :(

Country > Neighborhoods/Cities
I want to move to the country SOO bad. If I could right now, I would.

You could still have bad neighbors in the country.

Speaking of... There's man a lot of activity next door the last few days. Two middle aged men doing work on the property. Can't figure out if they're contractors, or, one of them bought the pace. If it's been sold that's the fastest turn around out in this area I've ever seen!

The thing is that most often your bad neighbor is not right next door making noise and messing up the neighborhood. We have one "questionable" neighbor whose property adjoins ours but his house is actually a couple of miles away and there is a mesquite thicket between us and him. He runs cattle on his land and they come up to the fence to investigate our birds but they are cool. I have always thought cattle were cool. Just standing around at peace with the world totally oblivious that they will someday be hamburger.
