Going to try something different for brooding the ducklings, will let you know how it goes. They have about outgrown their current box. Fortunately the turkey is finally healing up so I should be able to upgrade them soon.

I picked up my chicks from Ideal. Had 24 in the order so probably would not have ended up with any thrown in. Most people don't want the extras do to local rules. A few of the hatcheries now offer small batch shipping, but it can be pricey. I know Stromberg's does and Metzer Farms does too, but they don't hatch chickens.

I am hopefully picking up a yokohama rooster soon. I am so eggcited. Now the only problem is trying to locate one or two hens. =/

If anyone in the DFW metroplex is planning to order chicks in the springtime, my friend and I will be ordering from McMurray, so if you don't want 15 chicks, you can order with us and get a smaller amount. :) I am planning on getting a black minorca, a sliver laced wyandotte, white faced black spanish, six dark cornish, and maybe a white leghorn. If I can get my hands on the yokohama's first however I might just get the first 4 and a couple of the cornish. Has anyone ever butchered dark cornish before? Do they make a fair meat bird? I hear they lay well so I was planning to keep one of them and butcher the rest.

I have a litter of 7 rabbits again. They are so cute when they are small. This might get addicting haha. Our two rabbits that we kept are getting closer to butcher time, so looking forward to eating rabbit stew again, and are most of my coworkers haha! Still haven't found homes for my silkie pair. That is the only thing I hate about getting silkies is the chance of a rooster. I wanted some good broody hens, but got a pair haha.

The storms didn't do much damage in my neck of the woods, but I know several people who have lost everything. I am praying for them all right now.

i would go thru a breeder for the yokies! i got ideals when i had them and y=they were not good quality... onigadori if still on the byc has awesome longtails! look and see if they have some available! i got a stag and 2 hens shipped to houston! they are somewhere in north tx too! so you may be able to pick them up! when i received my trio the stags tail was well over 5ft long! i held him up as far as i could reach and his tail touched and looped on the ground! i am 5'10"!!! feel free to pm me any questions about breeding them if you have any! the yokies are one of my favorite breeds of longtails!!!

I'm a chicken raising newbie in Blanco. I got a fancy incubator for Christmas that I'm a bit overwhelmed with! Also, it appears 9 of my 10 hens are molting so I don't currently have eggs to incubate! Is anyone nearby to mentor me?!!

Welcome! There are several excellent threads on incubation. My observation from my try at it was that the room where the incubator is located needs to have really stable temperatures as that will cause changes to the temperatures in the incubator.
