Texas

Hi! I live in Vidor, Tx. I am about 30-45 minutes from the Louisiana border. I have been a member of BYC for about 6 mths. I have lost most of my flock in the last couple of months, I am down to 3 female ducks and 2 african ganders, 3 miniature schnauzers, and 3 rabbits. Glad to see TEXAS is still going strong!

Sorry to hear of you loss. Do you know what happened?

Sorry, I am trying to figure out how to get the little waving guy below the quote section. What is the secret????

so place your cursor below the quote section and the click the 'insert smiley' above and choose your smiley by pointing and clicking on it. Hope this helps.

I don't want to start a new thread for this. We just started to receiving eggs (only have 3 girls at this point). Is it possible for the same chicken to lay different colored eggs? We received an egg that has specs on it and some that don't. Just curious to know how many of them are laying, thanks!

Yes they can. They won't go from white to brown or green, but there are times that they may have something going on and will wind up with a slightly different tint on their egg, or speckles that lighten or darken. What I see the most in mine is that sometimes they will have a purplish hue to them and then it will stop and be back to the normal brown-spectrum egg. Depends on what is going on when the color is going on the egg. When they first start laying, expect the eggs NOT to be uniform until they mature a bit more.

Texas Chicken Bearers I have a slight issue. I'm in a section of Texas that gets a lot of rain and a lot of wind/like a lot of WIND! What types of coops do you guys have that let the heat out covered when it rains and won't blow away in the wind?

Wooden, open air a-frames. Ours have to be moved with a vehicle (tractor, riding mower, truck). Our large ones run 8x10 ft with a peak over 6 feet tall so we can stand up inside them. Even our small 3 foot tall a-frames for single male housing does well. The wide base gives it a lot more wind resistance.
