Yes chickens require constant maintaininance. Usually in alternating coop cleaning unless you get flooding rain than they all need cleanup. It is healthier for the chickens and keeps the odor down. I would rather smell fresh hay than chicken poo any day

More like an acquired ammonia.

But after a couple of months in a pile of wet hay that has been cleaned out it stops being hot and makes great garden fertilizer.

The chicken alarm. No I am not talking about the 0430 roosters. Once one is spooked for whatever reason her call spreads from coop to coop until all these hens chorus. Most times it is nothing and simply going out to the coops ends the general alarm.

+1 - all well?

Mine do this, but mostly in the middle of the day - they sound like something's ripping through their coop and eating them all alive, I rush out, and they all just look at me like, "What?" I've noticed that what often starts when one of them gets upset about the nest box (often "Mommy! She won't get out of MY nest box!!!! Make her MOOOOOOVE!!!").

Crazy chickens...

Yes. They are. Weird noises set them off. If you go out there and ask "What?" They calm right back down. It is the equivalent of someone yelling "Fire!" In a crowded movie theater it gets them all going at once.

Yes they can. All it takes is one hen to get the whole chorus going. I suspect that is their nature in the wild like a deer snort gets the whole herd moving.
