What a difference? Here's last year & this year.

I was out in Breckenridge, tx a few weeks ago and was amazed at how lush the fields were. 180 degree turnaround from last year

That is awesome about the goats we really want a goat but we have to just stick with our chickens because my husband has drawn the line (well he thinks so) hehe I'm sure if we asked for one long enough he would give in like he did with the chickens but we just got the chickens so we shouldn't push for more right now.

We had goats when we lived in SC, we loved them ours were very friendly, but they are hard to keep in. We thought we had good fences, they showed us otherwise. The buck would lay down next to the fence and roll UNDER the fence. Not sure where he learned that, but it was effective. Worst thing was they LOVE to climb to the highest place, which was on top of our CAR. Not good for your paint job to have a goat jumping all over it.
The chickens liked to hang out under the front porch in the heat of the day, they'd rush out to follow us when we cam out or drove up. They were all very spoiled.

I know that a goat is just a dream we don't have the room for one maybe someday one of my son's will be rich enough to buy a nice big plot of land for their Mama

went and got three pullets from the Brazos Valley Poultry Trade day in Giddings, 2 Egyptians and 1 partridge Plymouth rock then today we went to Melissa Rose's today and got a Columbian Wyandotte and a Salmon Faverolle.

Thank you to Melissa Rose the pullets we got from you today are the sweetest things and don't mind being picked and loved on at all. Your place is great lucky you!

I am truly amazed at how green everything is. It's fantastic. I was driving home tonight with the windows down and my nose was FILLED with the smell of flowers. It's been so long since I've smelled that sweet nectary smell that it was overwhelming! I have spent most of the evening on my porch just BREATHING in the spring smells I've missed the past few years.

Also, for those of you wanting to know.

The May 12th swap-like-thing ( started out a pet celebration ) the Huntsville TSC is throwing currently has YES responses from these vendors -
A farrier, whose name I will keep protected.
The Houston ASPCA barn and staff ( 4-6 horses, pigs, lambs/goats whatever they have, and poultry are expected )
A fencing company
A horse trainer, who will be bringing a pair of fresh colts and a young horse for demonstration.
And a few others.

We're going to have:
A petting zoo full of adoptable animals!
Games, games, GAMES!
Looking for a goat to borrow for goat droppings BINGO! - Did horse droppings last year, going to do a goat this year. I don't have one to bring or I would, although my bottle babies may be old enough by then to go without issues...
Going to hold a few different prize winning games. - There will be poultry prizes, goat prizes, horse prizes, etc.
Donations for the event ( home made items ) for unique gifts are a blessing!
All shavings, water, and hay will be provided.

We are also still open for suggestions on our big pet celebration.

My brain refuses to think of all of the other fun things we're going to have so forgive me.

We have the goats!! I raised and showed goats in high school, but that was 20+ years ago. Does anyone know if there is a goat forum that is as great as BYC? Anywhere I can go to get info would be great. We have built their fence and they seem happy. They were well taken care of (hooves in good condition, coats shiney); however, the only thing I'm concerned about is that 2 of them are due to drop in June and they just don't seem to be as big (pregnancy girth) as I remember from breeding in high school. Yesterday I went to TSC and bought a mineral block and sweet goat feed. I would like to know what else I need to do for them while they are pregnant.

Weather was BEEEE-U-TI-FUL this weekend!! Flowers are blooming, bees are buzzing, garden is growing - discovered several baby squash this morning. Found out last week that my baby girl is allergic to bees so I might have to re-think the raising bees idea . . .

We just got a couple (2) bottle-fed baby boy goats yesterday, as well! It is a little unplanned= the timing anyway, so I think I will switch the chicken coop I was building this week into a goat shelter, as we don't need the second coop just yet. I think I found a link for backyardherds via backyardchickens- and, like you, hope it helps a bunch.

We'll try to make it to Huntsville for May 12th. I work that night, but have been known to lose sleep in favor of fun with the family!
