Welcome! We never tire of Chicken stories & pictures of chickens & coops!
These are the four of them, Marmalade, Ramona, Frannie, and Amelia

Silkies in the half built run and the chicks roosting in the brooder! When do y’all move chicks outside? At this rate the chicks will be the same size as the silkies in a couple of weeks.

The first week.
Chick dust in the house is for the birds.

Hi Neighbor! I'm just outside of Barnum. Welcome to BYC! You can find out almost anything about poultry somewhere on this site. If you can't find it just post your question and someone almost always knows the answer!
:welcome:clap:caf:ya

:frow I'm close to both of you guys! Outside of Woodville on the Livingston side off 256. I pass Barnum all the time going to Lufkin!

I have australorps and they handle the heat as well as my other birds. We also have orpingtons, wyandottes, welsummer, maran, faverolle, EE, red stars, brahma, leghorn...probably others but I can't remember lol. Lately they have puffed out their wings and panted a bit, but they usually hide in the shade during the hottest parts.

Your Silkies are so cute. Our temps here in the DFW area have been in the high 60’s at night & next week will be in the 70’s. If the little ones have lost their down & are feathered, I’d put them outside. If not & you have electricity to the coop, you could put Mama’s heating pad out with them. If you plan on putting all the birds together, be sure to read up on mixing the two flocks, even if they are the same size as the silkies. Chickens can be brutal.

I plan on building a small temporary coop/run inside the larger run, and then letting them "see not touch" for a few weeks. It's amazing how fast these chicks are growing compared to how slow the silkies grew.
