Texas

new question, were getting mighty cold next week. my girls are 8 weeks old, i plan to close up the coop a bit, not every ventilation port of course. should i provide supplemental heat such as a heat lamp? my worry is that the ladies have never been in the cold before.

No supplemental heat. The chickens will acclimate to the cooler weather. Amazing, versatile creatures that they are. Provide a wind block but keep ventilation. Moisture is more a concern than cold.

8 weeks old - they should be fully feathered and can fluff up for insulation.

Are your perches wide enough they can keep their toes warm? At least 2" wide, but the Canadians talk about 4" wide for artic conditions. You know, below freezing for us.

Everybody likes chicken! Taken on backyard camera.

This Roo is still available, any takers? Anyone think they have someone with interest for him, needs new home to crow with full gusto!!
This gorgeous guy found a new home and went to Ft Worth area last night!
Strange not to hear it crow this am, although my anxiety level is alot lower now not worrying about which neighbor would complain about the Roo.
Such a SUCCESS after a very challenging stressful start to the week.
Thanks to all who considered him! Or the encouragement others provided.
