Woohoo, woke up to 63F and couldn't feel humidity in the air thank goodness a cool front finally had the huevos to make it through! Will be able to work outside again tomorrow for 2 or 3 hoursToday was weed eater day to all potential nesting spots and the hens set a monthly production record of 7 eggs with 3 more prime egg laying hours left in the day. I wasted some of this good weather with the Sheriff's deputies since we observed the neighbor's dog attacking one of my hens. Report was filed and he reportedly was issued official warnings. It's been a nice dry heat these last few days. I have been enjoying it a lot. Worked from the pool yesterday .

Working on a water system to provide extra cold water for the girls. Waiting for the water nipples to arrive in the mail. I was wondering, do you think I should add a water can to the coop with this heat kicking up? I'm worried about them not having it if they need it in there at night.

Do you ever get into Brownsville?

I grew "Prickly Pear "Opuntias," on the south side of my house for years -absolutely winter
hardy in Chicago suburb. They would dehydrate in late fall, so no cells would rupture from bitter cold temps. Smart plants.
Hardy there but the spines - were menacing. Even the tiny spine hairs, would work their way through garden gloves. Next time I'd put them on, they were on the inside waiting to make me miserable. Found a small dead bird impaled on the spines - last straw.

Dug them up with shovel, dumped in wheel barrow and pitched them out at the far corner of my yard. Hundreds of pads and some with gorgeous flowers. Wasn't worth the pain anymore.

Neighbors kept saying they wanted some but, after a year or two knew they didn't mean it. I promised them if they planted near their mail box NO DOGS would pee on them after the first time. Mine where yellow flowered, some with a red throat.

Man on the next block had gorgeous pink blooms - hoped to trade varieties with him. But he moved out and never got the chance.

Hi! I just started following this TEXAS social group. I'm inner city Houston I didn't ask anyone for permission lol. Coop is NOT going to be 100 ft from house next door, smh...i don't think our lot is even that wide!! I want these babies if I have to, I'll move. So far the immediate neighbors are fine with it. Happy to be here!

I love cactus! i had one in my front yard landscape for for more than 10 years! Was a variety looked silver purple color got in a town called Batesville coming back from grandmas home at border. It turned green eventually.. did you ever eat the pads? The cactus pears...they make great food!

New member in CTX currently living in Hutto but we are in the process of building a home and farmstead in the suburbs of Thrall. My wife and I currently have a Brahma bull calf, and bunch of rabbits, an empty chicken coop, and a 16 year old son at home.
