Texas

It looks like you folks living north of I-10, are in for a wintery mix or just straight up snow on Sunday. We were 47 overnight and up to 62F and for sure no Sun. Thankfully the winds are out of the east so coming in from the Gulf, and keeping us somewhat warm. This next front is hitting us as well.

Here near Dallas, it is currently 38 degrees with snow expected tomorrow at 11AM. Brrrr. I do not understand snow. The temp is supposed to be between 32 and 36 all day- I thought the rain had to freeze (32 degrees) to be snow. Maybe that is just ice. Like I say, I don't understand snow.

Pretty easy concept usually every 1000 foot elevation increase=a 3 degree temp difference. At least I read that somewhere and sometime in my life it was probably when dinosaurs roamed the earth. @electrycmonk Most likely has a quick reference book with the actual tables.

If it's 36 degrees at ground level where your standing, the higher in the atmosphere, the colder the air. So airplane flying altitude it "might" be 26 degrees so any moisture would be snow. Big enough snowflakes won't melt before hitting ground so we get to "see" snow. Woo hoo!
Not an exact explanation, but might get you an idea. Sleet is rain that freezes while falling thru the air.

Looks like the front has not gotten to us yet but we received about 0.5 inches of steady rail overnight. Currently 63F down here. If my weatherfolk are right though it is going to be a nasty weather week.
