Texas

It’s freezing cold outside I’m probably about to go in to de frost
So, I'm thinking unorthodox here......
Given:
1) the forecasted bitterness
2) momma silkie in the nesting box "in the coop
3) wind chills

I'm thinking of putting the plastic plate brooder (adjustable height) thingy in the belly of the nest box. Put fresh pine shavings over it and let her sit on the eggs with it 1-2" below the shavings....

Thoughts? Suggestions?
Y'all wanna see the picture of the item in question? It's a "K&H Pet products" 25watt unit.
may I see a picture of the items please:)

Oh yeah my sulcata(large tortoise) is indoors for obvious reasons. She has hella heat lamps but a heat lamp can only do so much. She's not happy about it tho.
Get a few tubesocks, fill with cheap rice. Tie off. Mike in microwave for ~2minutes each and lay them near your Tortoise.... It can easily warm the belly for upwards of 20 minutes depending on the level of warmth....

This is a really good tip. We have uvb heat lights in the house for her. But she's old enough to be safe at room temps indefinitely. Just not -4 haha. She'll go back outside when the temps are up to the 60s. She's usually outside by mid February but apparently texas isn't as forgiving as sothern georgia.

Would this be safe? Would the shavings have a fire risk?

I'm thawing out my fingers currently as I'm about to go back outside to pull the wheels of the truck for tomorrow's warranty brake pad replacement..... "Not so timely" eh?

It occurs to me you didn't understand what I meant. I can't keep the tortoise outside with heat lamps alone. So she's indoors with a lamp

Thee old Farmers Almanac has been greater that 80% accurate for NTX here... For several years in a row.

You won't see "stable" 60's until mid to late April up there in the pan handle this year.

Well I don't need stable If I set her up a cage with a heat lamp. Just over 50 at night to be safe. Shed kill me if I left her in the indoor cage for 2.5 more months lmao. She's been without her grazing since November. So I imagine she's about done with crap 🤣
