Texas

Hey there,

We are considering moving to North East Texas, currently in the state of WA.

I'm trying to figure out the best breed or breeds of chickens for the weather there. I love having a variety of colors within in the flock.

Would love some recommendations on breeds

Thank you!

Wyandottes
Rhode Island Reds
Speckled Sussex
Welsummer
Marans
White and barred Rocks
California Whites
Leghorns
Jersey Giant
Polish
Cornish
Orpington
EEs
Cornish cross
And feral barnyard mixes

These are all the breeds I've raised here. My top three are Polish, Jersey Giant, and speckled Sussex.
I would actually recommend ducks over chickens though, they really take all of this weather quite well. Heat, cold, rain and wind don't make them quit laying, they also have great disease resistance.

Edit: Just saw that you already have ducks, they do great here!

Thank you! For the quick reply!! I will do some research on each of the breeds mentioned.

I for sure will have duckies, I'm wanting to breed either Ancona or Magpies 😄
