Usually from what I've read here and other places, there's a high death rate till you get it right. The thread referenced already is a great one. And that Chinese guy has the best tools available for the job from what everyone says. He's known as chinesecapons on BYC I think. Have to email him and ask.

yeah.. that guy is amazing and so is the thread

You used to be able to buy the tools off of ebay.. I haven't looked for them lately

The way I look at it is.. if they don't survive just make sure you have a pot of scalding water ready!

forgot to mention this today.... one of the chicks that hatched yesterday well lets say someone helped him out... he had his feet out of the egg kinda like the walkin egg on garfield and frends... so it was helped out of the shell... needless to say we named it IGOR... 3 guesses why... has this happened to anyone before? i dont want to kill it but if it mus be done... ill have to ..... well tell my wife to do it!!! lol i can kill a goo n redy meaty but not a poor lil baby! who knows? maybe it will survive into adolesence! lil IGOR all grown up and used as a decoy for hawks!!!

You can try giving it some extra vitamins.. an avian vitamin or even sav-a-chick and see how it does

But culling them is no biggie if they dont straighten out.. just need a good hand pruner (like you would use for cutting roses) and give a quick snip to the neck to lop off the head.. same as butchering a quail and the chick isn't suffering

I believe in giving every chick a chance.. but sometimes they just have too many issues and their quality of life suffers too much

Oh dear! That's sad and yet kinda funny imagining the egg with the feet sticking out. If it's a chick, you can pretty successfully kill it in the a closed container with either dry ice or baking soda/vinegar. Check here for more details: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/259799/non-violent-way-to-kill-a-chicken

I have to say I think snapping the neck is actually more humane but it is harder on you to do it. I don't know if I could. Good luck and kind thoughts - - -

thanks for the info!!!

Can he stand up at all? I can't really tell if he's just wry necked or if he's also splay legged

You can give him Vitamin E for the wry neck.. some people also add in selenium.. though there seems to be mixed views on it

Polyvisol (without iron) is also recommended.. but again.. there have been mixed results.. the main thing is to see if he can eat and drink at all on his own.. if not he would need the vitamins ASAP or he would risk slowly starving to death once the yolk is fully absorbed into his system and he has nothing else to live off of.
the sooner the vitamin E can get into him would be *hopefully* the sooner he would straighten out hence being able to eat on his own sooner instead of starving to death (didnt mean to make it that he would be able to live off of vitamins alone)

it can stand but when it trys to walk it just goes in circles! so where do i get these meds? and are they injections? or do i skwert it down its throat?

I had a quail that suddenly one day had a crooked neck she was able to walk but at first just in circles but then she got the hang of it and live well with the crooked neck.. I had no idea what caused it to happen but the same thing happend to my friends quail close to the same time mine did ( their chicks came from the same clutch as mine) I'm happy to hear that vitamins might help I guesses chick starters and growers don't exactly have everything they need.
