Good morning everybody!!!
I have a question how many chicks should I have in a brooder as y'all know I have 50 chicks coming on thursday and I'm worried that I should split them up but grandad says they should be fine in one big pen. What should I do and how big an area should I have for them for the first week or two?
I have a brooder made from an old crate that is 36" wide x 60" long and 18" deep..i run 50 chicks for 2 to 3 weeks in it in winter. in summer 2 weeks max as they start to get hot. if that helps after that i move to bigger pen . just the way i do it some others may have ideas that work also.

I just put a phone reserve on a lavender orphington and a speckled Sussex pullet to hopefully pick up next week!!!!!!! *happy dance*
Jealous, much.

Well, my incubator will be going under "test" in roughly 24 hours....I'm nervous! I sure hope it works as well as we hope it will. I'm not going to worry about finishing up the stain on it, right now. Instead, I'm going to get the lid firmly attached and start the temperature calibration. Oh...I hope it works like I planned for it to.....**goes into engineer panic mode**
