His mom just got back with him. He has an ear infection and a bag full of meds. He will be fine. He was tugging at his ear yesterday and I didn't snap. Bad Paw Paw.

So glad to hear everything is going better for you andthe little man. We're dealing with 2 yr old sickness over here too. My little dude has pnuemonia, it sounds like there are some nasty bugs hitting the little ones right now.

Well considering we get 115 here. I raise many breeds, the key is to supply plenty of shade with misters and fans.

Agreed. Shade, shade, and just in case, shaded shade. I think whether to have misters or no depends on your area. If you're in deep south Texas it's likely too humid for them to be a lot of help. Vivi is in a drier climate and I know the misters are a Godsend to her chickens. Here, it's so humid that misters just add to the misery. I provide a large shallow pan with a couple inches of cool water in it, in the shade. They love standing in that water during the heat to cool off. I have some of the fluffiest "can't take the heat" types you ever saw and haven't lost a one to heat stroke like others have. Shade and Air Flow are the things that work here, plus the shallow water to stand in.

I used misters a couple of years ago.. with the hard well water they were clogged within a month so I had to soak them in a calcium remover.. after dealing with that headache I resorted to just spraying the birds down when I would go check on them.. last summer I had the birds in coops and thought they would roast in there.. but we oriented them so they face South where we have a pretty constant breeze during the summer.. Didn't lose a single chicken until there was a fire nearby and the smoke was so thick you couldn't breathe without coughing..
They loved the misters when they were working properly.. I think the temperature under the misters was a good 10 to 15 degrees cooler (if not a bit more)
