We lived in Midland for7 years and would tell folks we were five hours from scenic America
Very true. I was in Midland and Big Springs today checking on patients. A tumble weed blow across I 20 big enough to take me out.

His mom just got back with him. He has an ear infection and a bag full of meds. He will be fine. He was tugging at his ear yesterday and I didn't snap. Bad Paw Paw.
Thanks everyone for your concerns! What a great bunch of folks!!![]()
As the WW2 Vet said on TV the other day "I guess it's all just part of being a Texan".
I have him in my arms right nowGlad he's on the way to getting better!![]()
I have him in my arms right nowThank you!
So sorry. We will add him to our prayers. I feel so sorry for the little things when they are sick. I hope he is feeling better soon. Thanks! So glad to hear everything is going better for you and the little man. We're dealing with 2 yr old sickness over here too. My little dude has pneumonia, it sounds like there are some nasty bugs hitting the little ones right now.
Agreed. Shade, shade, and just in case, shaded shade. I think whether to have misters or no depends on your area. If you're in deep south Texas it's likely too humid for them to be a lot of help. Vivi is in a drier climate and I know the misters are a Godsend to her chickens. Here, it's so humid that misters just add to the misery. I provide a large shallow pan with a couple inches of cool water in it, in the shade. They love standing in that water during the heat to cool off. I have some of the fluffiest "can't take the heat" types you ever saw and haven't lost a one to heat stroke like others have. Shade and Air Flow are the things that work here, plus the shallow water to stand in.So I've been wanting to know what types of chickens would be ok to raise in this 100 + degree RGV heat?
Well considering we get 115 here. I raise many breeds, the key is to supply plenty of shade with misters and fans.

I used misters a couple of years ago.. with the hard well water they were clogged within a month so I had to soak them in a calcium remover.. after dealing with that headache I resorted to just spraying the birds down when I would go check on them.. last summer I had the birds in coops and thought they would roast in there.. but we oriented them so they face South where we have a pretty constant breeze during the summer.. Didn't lose a single chicken until there was a fire nearby and the smoke was so thick you couldn't breathe without coughing..Agreed. Shade, shade, and just in case, shaded shade.
