Edited to add: The crazy thing is I am also on a mailing list for my local SPCA here in Westchester, and there was a huge fuss last week because they are going to put down an extremely aggressive pit mix that has been at the shelter for a year. She was taken in a raid on a dog fighting ring, she was a breeder selected specifically for her dog aggressive nature, and after a year of working with her they have concluded she is unadoptable and a danger to the public. I get it; you have to stop and focus your resources on other dogs that won't rip your neighbor's yorkie to shreds. I can't tell you how many people were resigning, beside themselves in tears, etc, etc. All for a dog that is really, not very nice.
It's a controversial thing that people just don't understand. The day that my husband and I decided to euthanize an aggressive dog was just awful. Because we have always worked with the dogs and had never had a dog that we couldn't handle. But if we couldn't handle the dog, we knew it wasn't safe for someone that didn't have all the training we had. Sometimes there just aren't any other alternatives. My gripe is with the people that don't bother and use breed discrimination as a legitimate reason to just kill every dog of that breed. Have a friend that lives in Denver where they do that. Lots of dogs in the "underground" there with their owners hoping they don't get caught with these illegal dogs.

OK, better stop, I could really get on a soap box.

I know how you feel, last week I got home and had tin blowing off the big barn and the car port, I have a feeling I'm gonna be screwing tin down on the old barn again this evening!!! I wish we could trade the wind for some rain!!:)

I don't know about everybody else but I'm about to blow away down here in Seguin!!!

Here in Glen Rose the wind is blowing pretty hard. But I live on top of a hill, it's ALWAYS blowing. Neat thing is though it keeps the chickens pretty much in the backyard because it will blow all but my biggest one across the yard.

we've had high winds all night. and still getting them today.. luckily it's from the north this time.. so nothing should be tore apart this time around...

Years ago a friend of ours wanted a male doberman he had seen advertised in the paper.. the price was pretty cheap for a purebred, only $300. .. since we had dobermans we went with him to check the dog out. A beautiful registered male.. seemed nice.. but it struck me odd that the kids in the family didn't seem the least bit concerned that their pet was leaving.. I did notice where one of the dog's front legs looked like it had been broken before and healed a bit off.. so I asked about it. The owners told us that he had been involved in a car accident.. where he had run out into the road and hit the side of a moving jeep..
our friend decided he wanted to dog.. so he paid for him and asked us if we could keep the dog for him while he moved into his new home with his pregnant fiance and their two little girls. We agreed

The previous owners asked if they could deliver the dog to us.. (which I thought was a bit odd) but our friend agreed

later that day they brought the dog over and left him with us.. no remorse.. no saying goodbye to the dog.. kind of like dropping off laundry at the cleaners

about a week later the dog had an "episode".. he became extremely violent. his eyes went dead and his tongue turned blue as he was growling and snarling about an inch away from my face. My husband's labrador got in between us and got the dog off of me.. as I went to grab collars the dog suddenly looked around like he had no idea what had happened.. light back in his eyes and his little cropped nub of a tail wagging..
A couple of days later the dog had another "episode" with the same exact symptoms... bit my husband and acting completely insane.. moments later acting like nothing had happened.

I called the previous owner's vet and started asking questions

Come to find out yes.. he did get involved in the accident.. but what they had failed to mention was not only did the dog have a broken leg.. he had also suffered a head injury. The owners at the time refused to put the dog down or undergo any further testing. We also found out that the "episodes" would continue and get progressively worse as time went by.
We tried to tell our friend .. but he was adamant that the dog would be "safe" around his little girls and pregnant fiance..
The next day he came over.. and the dog pinned him against the fence.. growling and snarling while he had another episode (which were getting closer and closer together)...
we got the dog off of him.. I paid him what he had paid the previous owners of the dog and promised him a puppy from one of our litters.. in good conscience we could not allow him to take that dog home to his family even though he protested and still wanted the dog.

The following week we went and had the dog put down.. I felt horrible as we drove to the vet because he was wagging his tail and giving me kisses... but I knew it was the right thing to do even though most of the time he was a happy sweet dog to be around.

I am the same way! Ideal is driving distance from me but the pick up dates dont work with my work schedule...so i have never brought myself to ordering. im up to 15 at the moment, all from IDEAL but 3rd party at a feedstore

Wow how awful! You are such a good person for doing the very hard, yet right thing. Makes me mad at the owners, not only could they not take responsibility for their own pet, but they were willing to put others in danger because they were such cowards. Sorry that really chaps my hide.
