That little blue egg is so darn cute!

Someone said they got a tiny one like that once and it was only egg white, no yolk. Just can't bring myself to crack it open. Gonna wait for breakfast tomorrow and see.

Yeah, people have been calling them "fart eggs" on another thread I'm on. One lady's had her chickens laying them pretty regular the last week or so. Curious what it is that causes that. I'll have to go look it up

LOL...well since I posted that I have lost a husband nearly 2 yrs ago and have remarried just this last Dec. 7 nearly 3 mo ago...great guy...he came with some rescue dogs and a flock of jersey giants and a few rhode island reds. I also have 3 wyandotte hens.. need a roo..

Years ago a friend of ours wanted a male doberman he had seen advertised in the paper.. the price was pretty cheap for a purebred, only $300. .. since we had dobermans we went with him to check the dog out. A beautiful registered male.. seemed nice.. but it struck me odd that the kids in the family didn't seem the least bit concerned that their pet was leaving.. I did notice where one of the dog's front legs looked like it had been broken before and healed a bit off.. so I asked about it. The owners told us that he had been involved in a car accident.. where he had run out into the road and hit the side of a moving jeep..
our friend decided he wanted to dog.. so he paid for him and asked us if we could keep the dog for him while he moved into his new home with his pregnant fiance and their two little girls. We agreed

The previous owners asked if they could deliver the dog to us.. (which I thought was a bit odd) but our friend agreed

later that day they brought the dog over and left him with us.. no remorse.. no saying goodbye to the dog.. kind of like dropping off laundry at the cleaners

about a week later the dog had an "episode".. he became extremely violent. his eyes went dead and his tongue turned blue as he was growling and snarling about an inch away from my face. My husband's labrador got in between us and got the dog off of me.. as I went to grab collars the dog suddenly looked around like he had no idea what had happened.. light back in his eyes and his little cropped nub of a tail wagging..
A couple of days later the dog had another "episode" with the same exact symptoms... bit my husband and acting completely insane.. moments later acting like nothing had happened.

I called the previous owner's vet and started asking questions

Come to find out yes.. he did get involved in the accident.. but what they had failed to mention was not only did the dog have a broken leg.. he had also suffered a head injury. The owners at the time refused to put the dog down or undergo any further testing. We also found out that the "episodes" would continue and get progressively worse as time went by.
We tried to tell our friend .. but he was adamant that the dog would be "safe" around his little girls and pregnant fiance..
The next day he came over.. and the dog pinned him against the fence.. growling and snarling while he had another episode (which were getting closer and closer together)...
we got the dog off of him.. I paid him what he had paid the previous owners of the dog and promised him a puppy from one of our litters.. in good conscience we could not allow him to take that dog home to his family even though he protested and still wanted the dog.

The following week we went and had the dog put down.. I felt horrible as we drove to the vet because he was wagging his tail and giving me kisses... but I knew it was the right thing to do even though most of the time he was a happy sweet dog to be around.

Such a sad story, but you absolutely did the right thing. It's never easy to have to make those decisions. I was only suggesting giving the kids a chick to see if that might light a spark of compassion in them, but then again, I remember telling some street kids about an injured baby bird when I lived in Manhattan. They proceeded to try and stone it to death. Not quite the reaction I had hoped for....

My aunt lives in La Jolla, CA and told me on Saturday that two adult women had been seen clubbing a mother harbor seal and her newborn pup with a piece of wood, stomping on the baby even. At 2:00am, for no apparent reason. Luckily someone in Australia was watching a live feed of the beach and called the police but still - who the f tries to kill a baby seal at 2:00am? Yeah drugs, most likely - they didn't catch them - but really? A baby seal?

Like I said, people suck sometimes. I don't judge you for choosing not to have children, I think the world would be better off if more people were honest about that, like for example, your lousy neighbors. Clearly they shouldn't be caring for anything living, period.

I got my chicks from Murray and picked them up at the post office. It was like Christmas and being in Labor in one emotion. My chicks are doing great. Yours will be okay too.

My first group is 3 weeks old now still no sign of anything as far as combs go on any of them... This is probably normal but i was hoping to have some key distinguishing features between them since they are all getting their own anklets this weekend

Speaking of lousy pet owners my friend is always telling me about how her neighbor brags about cock fighting well yesterday she brought me a roo who's head is badly mangled looking at first it looked as if something attacked it or someone did a bad dubbing, its head was all bloody no feathers on its head head all black and blue and no cone. Today much of the swelling is down and he kinda looks like a vulture with all those missing feathers. I'm rethinking and guessing my first thought wasn't far off but this may be human induced attack. Has anyone ever dealt with this kind of bird are you able to integrate these guys into your flock also any suggestions on dealing with people who may or may not be involved with fighting, my friend has been penning any hens that wonder into her garden but has no place to put Roos (the reason it's at my place at the moment) I could really use some suggestions and advice can'tstand thinking someone would do this to any living thing

We have freerangeing AG's, we have to find homes for the stags before 9-10 months old, before they start killing each other. We had(he got a new home today) a 6 month old AG that decided he wanted to pick a fight with the big Wyandotte boys through the fence. He got beat up pretty good. If you don't have any other roosters he would be just fine with whatever breed of hens you have but I don't think it will work letting him in with any other roosters.jmo
