Texas

That makes you one of a select few!

I joke but it's an adjustment for me. I grew up in a part of the world where "small town" meant (without irony) under 250,000 people. But... I can commute to my job, I can afford the place, it isn't quite "set up a shooting range in the back yard" (which would be awesome) rural but it isn't as "20+families in each building" urban as my last home either. I was working at the far end of my back yard the other day and the neighbor's horse walked up to the fence to see if I had any treats.... not bad for a place within half a mile of "City Hall". :)

Thanks for the welcome everyone!
My brother lives in Sherman and has property halfway between Tom Bean and Bells. Yes, it's small town, but this big city girl finally moved to "no city" Texas.

where did you order them from? Lemme know how your leghorns turn out...curious about those buggers!
McMurray. I have heard mixed reports and was debating between them and meyer, but decided with murray since I can get my order in sooner. I know they will not be show quality, but they will be my babies just the same! I know, I am worried that my leghorns might be flighty and mean... but I want some nice, extra large, white eggs in my rainbow basket too!

I've not had any - but, they are going to be my project birds. I've been so excited to get them because all (and I mean all) the stuff I've read about them has them being stately, sweetly tempered, great meat and just all around amazing birds.
Perhaps I should think about getting some int eh future then.

Wow....my hometown is "huge" since it's recently grown to just over 1k people. My graduating class had - I'm not kidding - eight people in it...

Lucky! :) Where I grew up, if you took the population of the contiguous urban area (in other words, where it's city streets lined with buildings the whole way through) there were about 18,0000,0000 people. The specific "town" I grew up in (which was bordered by other towns, so you didn't know where one ended and the other began) had about 300,000 people. Bigger isn't (always) better. :)

I have 15 hens planned for sure at the moment, unless I happen to loose one or two in shipping. If my brahma and or free chick turns out to be a hen that would make 16 or 17 hens. Do you guy think that 15 hens would be ok shared between two or three roo's? Or Just need one roo for these lovely ladies?

"No city" will be my next step, I hope. I was looking for acreage when my apartment lease expired/they wanted me to move so they could "renovate" and this house basically fell in my lap ... it was jump now or go through the pain of moving, keep paying rent, and not be able to jump again for another year..... so I jumped.

Which isn't to say I don't like it here. :)

I know there is some property for sale in the Venus area if you want to move up this way. There is a mobile home on 5 acres for 55,000. 3 bed 2 bath. Dunno if you are looking for a mobile or actual house. There are some others too, on about an acre around 30,000 or so, they need a little work if you are ok with a project home. Warning though, almost no trees out here.... aside form mesquites. =_=
