If you can see, thats 3 BAs and 2 BRs literally climbing on each other to eat the food on my finger. Just snapped that so its about as current as they get!

Ill check out ur page this evening when im on the pc. I will def let you know what us bottom of the barrel connections will do...average about 1 mb/s on this lousy mifi hotspot! Ugh!

I do not love RIR in general. The few all RIR flocks I've seen had lots of birds missing feathers because they constantly fight for top spot. I have heard good things about BR being good flock leaders, and I can't say enough good things about my Delaware. Both of those breeds are dual purpose, and I think you'll find the dispositions better with those.
I do love my one BR. She is my baby out of everyone. I did have a BR rooster until last week. I did not raise him. He came from my mother's flock, which ultimately ended up as all mine. He had a surprisingly good temperament. Except when someone came in there besides me wearing a red shirt or pants. I had to walk slowly and carefully and talk to him when I wore my red athletic pants around him or he would get spooked and attack you. He was quite accurate with his spurs and beak. The ladies Mom gave me never knew how to keep their clothes on. The odd thing was my 4 hens have never had that problem. When they molt they don't look bare. I will just notice they look a bit scraggly and see new feather growth coming in.
She had given me 3 red and black striped sex link hens and 2 RIR. I could not put them in with my 4 because the RIR hens beat up horribly on my babies. I am very protective over my 4 Ladies. There were a few times after they were separated when one would end up in with them that we almost had chicken for dinner. This last week they ended up chilling in the freezer. I hope their children, which I have kept 3 of the 10 I hatched, are of much better temperament.

I absolutely adore one of our BRs. Her name is Mo.

This is Mo:

All the others could go and I'd feel a little sad if they were taken out by predators...but, Mo's my buddy. Her barring is muddy and her form's all off, and she'd never get much of any love at a show - but, she's the most inquisitive, most adorable, funniest chicken. Her sisters, Eeney and Meeney are dark barreds, Mo is light barred. In the US that makes no difference - but, you can tell just by a glance which one's Mo - she's the lighter of the three. Each one of the BRs would be considered more enjoyable than any of the others we have. Though, the BAs are growing up to have a little personality. The EEs are just - we call them our dumb blondes. And the SLW mutts - I just can't figure them out...The hatcheries should be shot when they get such a chaotic mix as this and still try to sell it as the breed.

But - so far - as chicks in the brooder go....the Dorkings win hands down, closely followed by the BRs. I'm hoping that continues into their adulthood as well. I actually like my BRs so much, I've considered seeing if I couldn't find a roo to bring around...but - no....one breed at a time for focus...right...yeh...I have a hard time doing one thing at a time

She is so adorable. My sister used to raise a lot of poultry just to have cooing and clucking around. She had chickens, turkeys, guineas, quails, and ducks. She hatched some and others she acquired. She loved those birds a lot. I used to lovingly-tease her and tell her she was a combo of the crazy cat lady and a bird whisperer. Now that I have been raising my own for a year now I understand her love of these feathered ones. My Barred Rock, Big Mama, is very special to me.

I have two easter egg layers. I believe Ideal Poultry said they were Americuanas. We call them our Egyptian chickens because when they were chicks they looked like they had eye make up like you see on ancient Egyptians. They are interesting. It took a long time for them to not be so skid-dish around me. Now I can pick them up and love on them no problem. It is cute when they coo back to me. I think I got lucky as they are rather intelligent as chickens go. I named them from the movie Men In Black, after the twin aliens working the controls in the Men In Black headquarters. They are the twins, Bweryang and Bobbie. I changed Bob to Bobbie because I didn't want to call a female hen Bob.

That sounds like so much fun! How long are they doing that today? I am only 25 miles away in Plantersville. I might see about dragging my grandmother out of the house. She would get a kick out of that and we could do some garden shopping maybe while we are out.

ROFL! The ride on John Deere is MINE I named it Buddy and it mows and hauls my 'newer spreader. DH drives the larger tractor with the hydraulics fondly named Taffy (TAFE) :)
Spring Creek Feed had a riot on Thursday when they got in Americauners (EEs from Ideal) and sold them out in 10 minutes and had to hand out numbers. They are expecting likewise crowds when they get in Silkies this Thursday. They had a nice looking group of BR pullets today and a nice girl from Purina to chat with about flock management. Back out to stack hay...

LOL That is funny. I do love my Americuanas. They are good girls. I think I may be only successful in getting my grandmother to come to the house today. It is okay though we can still play with all the babies. It is about time to take the ducklings out for their swim. I wait until around 12-1pm for the sun to hit their pool. I don't want to chill them if they get to cold in the water. Just checked the thermometer it is reading 90 degrees in the sun. Oh boy spring/pre-summer is here. I guess I should start looking into fans for the new coops. I had to hose down the coops and wet the chickens down twice a day last summer to keep them cool.
