Texas

I am hoping my strawberries, grapes, black berry , blue berry, cataloupe, and water mellon make it. I can't remember what else I planted. I think tomatoes, but not much else sprouted... I think I just need to go get some started plants after the freezing is done.... *sigh*
That sucks.

I got one of those shelving unit mini greenhouse things for $20 at TSC and have seeds started in there. When I got the freeze warning alert on my phone a couple of days ago, I hung up a string of old Christmas lights inside the mini greenhouse and it kept things warm. Warmer than I thought it would. When I went out the first morning to unplug the string, there was an actual temp difference between inside the plastic and outside and none of the seedlings showed signs of cold stress. It's s'posed to get colder tonight than the last couple of nights, and I am hoping that the Christmas lights will continue to do good with the heating.

Well, came home to find my little keet that I was worried about dead in his corner. Poor little fella. He's out in Boot Hill, now. My husband won't let me feed them to the dogs.

But, in good news, all the others look healthy and good to go - and, this is my only loss out of all the chicks and keets and rabbits I've had, so it's not unexpected. I'd almost say I was due a loss, you know?

And, in construction news - the Hotel & Bathhouse (the first building in Landstown) is coming along. Construction should be complete in another couple days. He astounds me with how fast he works...

This is where he got his idea for this building:

Little Wing - I'm very sorry to hear about your loss.
That. Is. Awesome. AWESOME!!!!!

Seriously, you need to get some neighbor kid with a camcorder to start taping this to pitch it to a network. I love it!

What a clever solution!

Chicks got some warm boiled egg topped with a sprinkling of chick grit to get ready for another cold nite. Space heater running for the bigger guys and heat lamp turned up for the younger ones! Lets see what happens tonite, atleast the wind isnt ripping!

It's not the norm but you can find it. I have a local feed store that carries straw out here and a few of the farmers/ranchers bale their own.
Hmph, so apparently two E TX people can get straw. Apparently we are just too close to Dallas. Guess I need to start heading farther east to check out feed stores when I want something I can't get here.

I know Taylor often has straw available. It was a bit difficult to get the other year because the drought was so bad; but, you may have better luck this year.

Yes, head this way. I say make it a weekend trip and come visit the bustling country town of Tyler. :) We're only 1.5 hours from DFW and have some beautiful places to visit and relax.
