That sucks.

I got one of those shelving unit mini greenhouse things for $20 at TSC and have seeds started in there. When I got the freeze warning alert on my phone a couple of days ago, I hung up a string of old Christmas lights inside the mini greenhouse and it kept things warm. Warmer than I thought it would. When I went out the first morning to unplug the string, there was an actual temp difference between inside the plastic and outside and none of the seedlings showed signs of cold stress. It's s'posed to get colder tonight than the last couple of nights, and I am hoping that the Christmas lights will continue to do good with the heating.
I need to get a greenhouse... I thought about it, but with the wind out here I was kind of worried. I have a little mini 10 plant starter kit, but I was gonna use it to start my royal empress trees.
Thanks! About 95lbs when filled out.
Nice. Last time we weighed Weiss, he was 85 and that was.... three or four months ago, and he just hit a year and two months. I wonder if he gained any weight.

That. Is. Awesome. AWESOME!!!!!

Seriously, you need to get some neighbor kid with a camcorder to start taping this to pitch it to a network. I love it!
I would so watch that show! I think it would be a great idea. Just like tanked, only with poultry houses <3

These are the new pictures of my flock! These were taken yesterday. The SLW is the newest member of the flock. Took three days for her to be accepted. Now she is running around with them exploring and doing fun chicken things!

The look great. I like the rooster it has such neat colors and markings. Everyone I have seen on this site has the coolest looking chickens. I like seeing all the variety. It makes me want to have more chickens.......

I should probably stay away from the exotic bird shows or poultry shows at the surrounding counties fair grounds, especially Conroe. They all have such neat birds. I have to stick my hands in my pockets so I don't take any home. LOL....coming home would be interesting , "look at our new peacock honey doesn't it just look lovely....can you help me with the Guinea in the back of the truck too Please....kisses thank you."

I'm working on a smaller one right now.5'X8' This one will have a loft and nesting box. I'm going to put a small door on the loft end to collect eggs.
Doing some catching up on the thread tonight. I like that design for a chicken tractor. It looks like it would go straight over the garden when it needed to. I am going to have to save some of the pictures of the coop designs I like and chicken tractors for when my permanent one goes up. Everyone has unique design ideas on their coops. Yours has given me a few new ideas too. It is looking good. Can't wait to see it when you have it up and running.

I was too, so I got a pkg of yellow plastic tent stakes from Walmart and stuck them in the ground with their hook over the wire of the very bottom shelf of the unit. It holds pretty good, although the shelf unit does shake a little in high wind. One day I had left the zipper on the plastic open because I was worried the plants would get too warm - the wind pulled back the plastic slightly from the frame and out of the tiny little metal "stakes" that came with the kit to anchor through grommets at the bottom of the plastic cover. I'm sure if I hadn't had the big tent stakes holding down the shelf, the whole thing would have been blown to Oz. But with the cover zippered, it has stayed put no problem.

Keep an eye out at Tractor Supply for the little shelf units to be on sale again. I've been really happy with it for just $20 on sale + the $3 for the big tent stakes.

It was cold last night! I almost lost my tomatoes. Now wouldn't the chickens have been sad about that?
My garden last spring worked out great. I started in February after I saw the Dogwood bloom. Unbeknowest to me though, I was planting a garden for the chickens not humans. I had deer, hogs, rabbits, and other wild animals leave it alone. My chickens were free-ranging and finally realized it was over there, no fence (silly on my part). Wow did they go to town on the tomatoes, cucumbers, and strawberries. They like some other tasties in there as well. I think a chicken without tomatoes treats would feel an injustice had been done.

I hope my girls now don't remember tomato season. I sweeten them with homemade breads.
if anyonr is around tomball or magnolia please note me
Jezzikins88 I live not far from Magnolia around Renfaire. Welcome to BYC!
gonna repeat it here to make it part of the public record

I still say you need for him to build a bordello and stock it with showgirls

Otherwise it just isn't a REAL little western (texas) town!

Those are some chickens down with the funky look. I like them. Those are a breed of the naked neck type of chicken right? I will add them to my list of future breeds that I would like. I love chickens with crazy hairdos.

for the dry lot where no one goes.. yup.. I would even take them.. It was a dust storm here over the weekend with all the wind.. I have to wonder how much of our real estate shifted over to our neighbors!
I used to watch the dirt devils fly up last year when we lived in Richards near Navasota. Our grass was only green in places the chicken tractor had been. Everywhere else you could tell nature was thirsty. Those dust storms do like to relocate bits of land don't they. Why can't they ever pick up fertile land and drop it in our gardens...

That would be amazingly wonderful.
I am hoping my strawberries, grapes, black berry , blue berry, cataloupe, and water mellon make it. I can't remember what else I planted. I think tomatoes, but not much else sprouted... I think I just need to go get some started plants after the freezing is done.... *sigh*
I just started my seedlings for 8 different herbs on the porch this last weekend.

I hope they make it. I am glad I haven't planted all of the other goodies. I hope your plants make it. I noticed blooms on the blackberry vines in the woods last week when I went for a walk. I can't wait to pick blackberries and try my hand at Blackberry wine. I just need to find a lid for the stoneware carafes we have here.....here I come eBay.

I just looked up the weather after finishing my catch up reading on the last 8 pages or so. Now I am going to check on my babies. I have 2 heat lamps in with the babies and 1 in with the Ladies. Everyone have a good night and I hope yall all stay warm as well as all the chickens.

I just went to check on everyone and they were doing okay. The babies needed one of the heat lamps moved closer. I went to do that and the darn bulb busted. That wouldn't be so bad but when it did it blew the whole breaker. Now all the heat lamps are out.

I hope they do okay tonight. I spent this whole time looking for that breaker and cannot find it. Everyone is asleep and I don't want to wake up to find out where it is. I put one of my fleece blankets out there with the chicks and ducklings (3 weeks old and ducklings 1 month on Wednesday.) I wrapped around where they were laying and made a fleece cave for them and they can snuggle into it. I am so worried cuz it is so cold out. I have never had this happen. They are almost fully feathered, minus the ducks who are just now starting to get feathers.

Will they be okay with that for one night all 3 chicks and 2 ducklings together in the fleece cave? I know my older girls can fair well in this because there is next to no wind out.
