57 chicks wing banded (glad I ordered another 100 bands over the weekend)

I didn't band Peepers yet.. (still need to take some pics of her fluffiness)

more eggs in the incubator..

more eggs arrived today.. lol.. and more in transit

Around mid April I will have my first batch of Iowa Blue hatching eggs mailed.... Which means the money from the four bridesmaids dresses are going to go to a good incubator. Any suggestions as to which one I should get? Financing is limited by the way since I also need to start looking into building a breeding pen. Right now, Rascal, is pretty close to the breed sop, just some minor faults that need to be worked out. He has one point too many, and he has too much gold in his hackles. His eyes and his legs need to be a little darker. But he's not bad for a grab out of an assorted straight run heavies. And here I was going to eat him.

Since he is so close to sop (not perfect but pretty close) I guess I am going to start breeding them to see if I can get a good one for shows. Which means I will start showing birds soon. Anyone have suggestions on where I should look to see what I need to do to start entering bird shows? I'm brand new on that aspect. I still plan on doing some langshans later on but since I have a decent start at Iowa Blues, I thought I would start there. Thanks in advance for any help!

Im curious about showing as well! Does anyone else show on here? Thats one thing that never seems to come up here! Lol!

for small spaces I love Reptipros.. but if you will be hatching out lots of eggs and you have room you may want one of the big cabinet types

I avoid poultry shows and exotic bird shows.. too much of a risk of bringing home something nasty on your clothes or birds

how many eggs are you thinking about incubating at a time?
will someone be home to tend to the incubator / eggs at hatch?
did you want a turner or will you be hand turning?

for the record.. I hate Brinseas with a passion (too many lemons plus bad fan location)

so depending on your needs I'm sure we can come up with a suggestion

No more than two dozen at a time, my dh would kill me if I did more than that. I will have to have an auto turner. And space, well, I'm working on that. My dh is fighting me but I think I might end up with our 10x10 shed for my chickens. Since I can't do my sewing business in the same room with chickens. Dust all over wedding dresses? And the faint smell of chicken poo wafting down the aisle (I keep things bagged for that reason but he doesn't know that).

I think I have a way around the clothes part. My sister doesn't have chickens and she only lives a few miles away from me. I could stop by, change and shower, then leave my clothes to be washed at her house. As far as the birds, can't you keep them in quarantine? I want to show them, what precautions can I take to do it as safely as possible?

Anyone in the DFW area breed rumpless araucanas? I am looking to get a hen or two for my flock, that or find some chicks somewhere and hope I get a hen xP

There's a breeder in Iowa Park... 2 hrs away from DFW... Search Wichita Falls Craigslist got some hatching eggs from her
