Texas

Thanks, I'll definitely look into this one. San Marcos isn't that far of a drive. Selma is a nice town, unless you like speeding on 35!!!

I will be at the San Marcos show on Saturday. I will be showing my first chicken ever (I don't expect much since I am taking the #4 cockerel just because he is the only one without a flock right now and therefore in a pen of his own and doesn't have broken feathers and won't require any moving around to isolate after we get back). I also will be participating in my first ever open egg contest, my first ever Cream Legbar auto-sexing chicks contest, and my 2nd Marans egg contest. I guess when you only go to one show once a year you have to do it all. :)

If anyone is interested in getting hatching eggs let me know. I also am donating hatching eggs to the 4-H club's silent auction and will bring what ever people are interested in hatching (that being limited to Cream Legbars, Black Copper Marans, and Euskal Oiloa Basque Hens).

Hit me up on PM to discuss $$ and other deets.

With the muscovies requiring a different incubation environment, I'm hurting for another incubator. I honestly was teasing my husband when I bid on them. I mean, who makes their high bid $8.50? You're going to go to at least $10, right? I mean, really?!? So, here I am....$9 winner for eggs I have no way to incubate....

I decided to start looking around for what I could get for local pickup...and, really, I think I've found what I want. It's not that far away. The price is reasonable...and, the size is perfect - giving me room to grow:

Yeah.....as Yinepu said about the other incubator I showed her.....my husband would divorce me...

I hate, hate, hate styrofoam incubators, and it really doesn't matter that I do because all the stores around me that carry them are out. I'm hoping the show in SM will be like most shows and have vendors available hawking their wares so I can maybe hit one up for an incubator. I will probably have to cave and go with a hova bator or such since I doubt anyone is going to show up out of the blue with a Reptipro or any such thing.

in regular duck breeds (non muscovy) the boys have a raspy quack... the girls have a much clearer brighter sounding quack

you can also look for the curled tail feather.. boys have it (again.. non muscovy) and the girls don't
Okie dokie, then I think I have a girl and a boy. I named the loud one Gabby. I think that one is the girl. I don't have a name for the other yet? It does have a slight curl to it's tail feathers smack in the middle of it's tail. You can kind of see it in this photo. The one with it's tail feathers straight up is my Gabby.

The books always say older but I have found that chickens don't read books. :) Hubby told me that he heard the strangled sounds of a first crow coming from the brooder this morning. The one in there that would be doing it is about 2 months old. The others that are in there with him are even younger. One that we hatched in January started young also. However when we moved them outside where he could hear all the other cocks that crow, he has actually stopped doing much crowing now.

I don't have any roosters anymore. I am part hoping the one that looks like the father rooster will turn out to be a roo. That way I can name it Kellogg Jr. They are a month and a half old now. I can't wait to see who is a roo. I do like when they are finding their inner crow.

I have been busy the last few days. My sebbies hatched! Well 3 of 4 did. But 75% hatch rate isn't too bad for eggs that were shipped from new york to southeast Texas. Also 2 more turkeys were making their entry to the world when I left for work this morning. I am a happy chicken/duck/goose/turkey mom. :) oh and my husband didn't kill me for the suprise addition of pheasants....he actually wants more.

I've made visits to the flea market off hwy 6 quite a few times! I always want to take home a chicken but I'm not quite sure how trust worthy the sellers are... I would hate to bring home an unhealthy chicken and jeopardize my flock.
I know one that does sell there from time to time. Karen and Mike Hales they are certified and have other accreditations I can't remember this early without coffee.

They have great chickens and care about them too. Sadly I will not be able to buy any chickens. I will have some friends there to be my extra will power lol. I have seen some sellers there that I didn't know if I would by from either.
