Texas

My dad was a WWII veteran, along with two of his brothers. Another brother fought in Korea. Two of my mother's brothers also served in Korea. Both of my brothers are veterans, and one of them is currently serving his second tour in Afghanistan. My family has been fighting for this country since the Revolution. So, you guys want to build a wall, I'll be there. Those Westboro people are disgusting, and I'm convinced only do it out of narcicism - they like seeing themselves on TV. I agree that the Constitution gives them the right to do it and my family has certainly fought to defend that right. It doesn't mean that grieving families should have to put up with their crap, though. It makes me really sad those nuts are from Texas.

On a happier subject...after weighing my eggs, I am within .02% of the desired weight for day three.

Unfortunately, the only eggs showing any development are my Red Dorkings....the Cream Legbars and Isbars and Marans are all showing zero development. They could just be slow to get started, though. So, here's hoping for a good check up in four days' time.

no tossing them until at least day 7... (i am sooo gonna smack you if you toss them before then... unless one is really smelly and oozing... in which case you may need to call in a HAZMAT team)...

my dad was also in WWII (wounded).. had a brother go to Korea.. had three cousins die in Vietnam... my husband has been to Iraq way too many times and recently came back from Afghanistan wounded..

personally i don't give a flying pig about their rights when it comes to that crap at a funeral.. especially when they are just there seeking attention and using lame excuses for their actions

if they want all that media attention.. then why not do something good.. instead of trying to incite people to violence...

Good Morning!

I can see from the past posts that everyone is in a fine mood!

My dad was in WWII also. Thank you to everyone who has served and especially to the loved ones that are waiting for them to come home.

GOOD NEWS: I have taken the plunge and have ordered Bourbon Red Turkey eggs and Speckled Sussex eggs from Arielle. I fired up the incubator for the first time last night to make sure it is working (so far so good). Needless to say I am nervous as all get out. I will probably be pestering you guys for advice. I need to get a better flashlight and I plan on picking up a thermometer today. I already had a gram scale (every kitchen needs one, right?)

Have a fantastical day!!

Lisa :)

Mean little cockerels! 2 of my 3 little boys - 10 weeks old - have jumped up at me and scratched my arm.

On purpose.

Both times I was giving them new food and water and they came into the cage to jump at me. Is this normal behavior? My girls have always been so sweet. (except for Penny who only pecks me when I am petting other chickens). If this is normal behavior, I can't wait to send them back to the farm.
So what's the best way to discipline a chicken so they won't keep doing it? Thanks!

They are polish. I made the mistake of buying straight run chicks (5) from a farmer. Wound up with 1 girl and 3 boys. I raised them from day-olds, handled them all the time, and treated them like my own children. At 7 weeks I relocated them to their own small coop outside and since then they act goofy around me. Scared, brave, scared, brave....

Oh, I have absolutely no intention of tossing them unless they still show clear come day 10. That's my final "pitch" date mark on my calendar. Figure these guys may just be "late bloomers". I would hope to see something by day 7 at least. I figure day 3 just shows the ambitious fellas.

Don't be afraid of them. Sounds like they are starting to protect their territory which is a good thing - just not if they are going to hurt you. You can do things different ways or a combo - as they approach you, grab them and hold them or when they approach you, start pushing them back so that you are literally tossing them backwards away from you and lift them off their feet a bit. We do both ways and still have a couple of males that try to show off and they'll drag their wing and start sidestepping around trying to "scare" me off when I go into the runs/coops. But they know that they can posture and that's as far as it's going to go. And one of them that really likes to do that, he doesn't hardly even struggle when I snatch him up and tuck him under my arm. Just gotta do it every time, either grab them or push them back.

Oh! That's the breed we decided on last night! Let me know when you are ready and we could split an order!
