If you go to the natural chicken keeping thread and read through today's posts, you'll see. Nothing super exciting. Some people just don't like it when you call a spade a spade.

Yea I didn't make it that far. I'm sorry, but all natural means no coops, no bagged or fermented foods, or nesting boxes. Natural is chickens living in a field, roosting in trees, and eating bugs.

I can tell you the zoo I worked out had "natural" chickens. One day a hen and rooster showed up. 10 years ago. They reproduced and roosted in the trees. Rinse and repeat. We don't feed the chickens that live there. Or practice ANY quarantine seeing as we never know when people drop off chickens. And guess what? None die. And guess what else? Predators don't bother them either. And there's close, if not more than, 50 birds there's.

Immunity is built by exposure to new things to the system. That's why over washing hands and anti germ hand sanitizer is actually bad. It's ok for kids to eat dirt. It's ok for them to run around barefooted. Guess what it does? Boost the immune system.

Sorry...../end rant before I keep going on

Well then you missed the part where I questioned their discussion on biosecurity, as being not natural, and they got all their panties in a bunch! Lol

I read about two post on bio security and I said forget this crap. One went on and on about feeding fermented feed, and settlers traveling in covers wagons.

My meds are already screwed up. Didn't need to help it along.

Lmao, here is what I said...
"Does anyone else find it strange that for hundreds of years people have raised chickens without paper suits and hand sanitizers, and changing their shoes 3 times? There's nothing wrong with being cautious, but in a "natural" chicken keeping thread, some of this seems a bit unnatural ! Lol. I had 4 chicks bought from 3 different places, got to more from another different place, I integrated them over a 24 hour period, a little bit at a time. Everyone is healthy and happy. I guess because I'm not a huge "breeding" "processing" operation, that letting my chickens just be chickens is a bit easier for me.

Omg 70$ every two Weeks in feed is killing me somethings been getting my chickens and Turkeys so everybody is on lockdown except my days off till I catch the predator. So far marshmallows eggs scraps and dog food haven't lured it to my trap so I'm at a loss. What's large enough to take down a full grown turkey and small enough to get through a6x6 cattle panel and drag it of a ten foot perch

I saw that, someone quoted it. I didn't look at who brought it.

Having spent 10 years in veterinary medicine and zoos, I completely understand plastic booties and paper masks, WHEN they are needed. Parvo is scary ****. Doesn't mean I always wear booties when playing with other dogs, and carry 4 changes of cloths in my truck for after work. I take precautions when it's warranted.
