Texas

I do have 4 marans and two amercaunas that are chicks. Sorry don't do face book. I started out with a few silkies and then went on to get wyandottes and Javas for main egg layers and then ended up with more of a hodge podge of different breeds. Trying to make up my mind I guess.

I figured small town, had to be. But I was wrong. However....my "dealer" (ha...chicken crack) does know you. Lol

not me.....NEVER

Hey I'm sort of new to the whole chicken thing and was wondering if free ranging silkies is a good idea?

I wouldn't suggest it, silkies can't see well because of their crests so they're particularly susceptible to attacks by hawks.

You could make it work if you give them a lot of cover and places to hide, roos help too because they're good at warning the hens when there's danger nearby.

thank you.

I raise quail I use to have three kinds but the owls seem to like the white ones so now I have jumbo brown and standard pharaoh
They are delicious stuffed with guda onion and garlic then wrapped with bacon and slow smoked on the grill, when processing cutting down the breast instead of the back makes for more even cooking. They are also wonderful baked, dredge in seasoned flour bake and use juices to make a gravy to smoother them in yum yum good stuff.
so does anyone here raise quail? i received my eggs in the mail today! some jumbo browns and jumbo whites!

3 of the 5 small chicks in my little coop are sneezing! Argh! One of the SLW eyes were a little chunky and stuck shut. Sneezing started ~3 days ago. Tonight noticed clear discharge from the nose of the one with the gunked eye.

Picked up tetracycline at the feed store this morning. Put it in their waterer for tonight, so it was in there for tomorrow. Apply othrymycin to the eye. Anything else I can do?

I use Tylan 50. I bought an eye dropper at CVS and give it orally to chicks.
