I am going to take notes! Did you give it to the first one that died? Is it a shot or do you put it in their water?

We have a herd of pigeons stealing the chickens scratch everytime I throw it outI know we aren't supposed to like wild birds around our flock because of the potential for disease and lice etc. BUT I must say I LOVE my sweet mockingbird pair. They follow me around and sing songs to me which I returnThey also avidly guard my flock. If any other animal goes anywhere near any of my free ranging chickens one of the mockingbirds will immediately swoop down scolding them and driving them away swooping back and forth over their back or tail till they are far enough away to be satisfactory. And today a hawk was circling and at the same time my chickens saw it and freaked out, both mockingbirds took off like rockets and attacked it till it was driven away. If only they were on night shift too, LOL!
So I got rid of all my guineas and 2 of my hens. Gave them to my best friend along with all the hatchlings - I was hatching them for herThe guineas I got at her recommendation so that when they got old enough they would free range and take care of the grasshopper problem. Apparently I raise spoiled birds. They were 15 weeks, and would NOT leave the coop. I open it every morning and the chickens pour happily out the door to go catch bugs. The guineas sit in there eating bon bons all day and raising a ruckus, LOL! They are crazy skittish and can't be held. Catching them is a nightmare. I tried several times and caught all 15 of them and put them out of the coop. 10 minutes later they were all back in. AND - they don't know they can fly, LOL! My BF told me that if I wanted them out of the run just run at them at the open end and they would fly straight up and out of the run. Nope. Not mine. All they do is scream and shove their heads over and over into the fence and run around crazy
And can the EAT?? OMG! More than half my feed bill must go to them! I am so glad they are gone, LOL! Its so quiet, so peaceful, and no one is pooping on my head in the coop anymore. They always insisted on roosting on top of the coop etc and would time it to crap on me as I walked by - I swear, LOL! No more guineas for me - I don't raise them right apparently - I give them an identity crisis. Our RIR roo is sad though. He apparently thought he was a guinea - because that was all he wanted to get busy with :/ Freak birds....
Okay, not chicken related (well kind of), but I am proud of this. I am trying to figure out ways to cut down on food cost while increasing "convenience" last weekend HEB had bone in, skin on chicken breast for $1/lb, so I bought about 12 lbs. Cooked all that up on Sunday, stripped the meat off, bagged it up in smaller portions, so I can just grab add taco seasoning or BBQ sauce, throw and a tortilla and good to go.
I kept all the bones and all the trimmings from pre-prepping my veggies (did not matter what kind). Froze it all, then today pulled it all out and made home made chicken stock. It is to die for!!!! I am freezing it in ice trays then going to dump them all in a bag so I can just grab what I need. So simple, yet so effective!

The poor thing; do you think you could have saved her if you had given her some sort of medication? No, the first one didnt get it. But had 2 with symptoms that are showing improvement in the first 4 days. It is a powder i mix in their water, 2 tbs/ gal
Oh please do! Shoot me a pm if it is an option!
The guineas we are going to keep we give to a broodie to raise (or if we dont have a broodie we have the Cochin "mommy pack" raise them). My guineas roost in the barn with the free range flock and mostly lay in the nest boxes in the barn, some in the hay. Since we dont feed our free range flock much a few of the guineas have learned to fly into a couple of the yards to eat some of the FF they love. 4 of the girls that fly in actually lay in the nest boxes in those yards, I had turkey hens setting on guinea eggs with their own. I have one guinea hen that spent the whole summer sitting on a nest in the hay with her BJG buddy. They set 3 batches of 30 to 60 eggs together with me checking the nest for any newly laid eggs every day. The BJG fussed, the guinea left me with scars! But she stayed with the nest and I learned to keep her occupied away from my hands. Lol (I remove the eggs at lockdown to the hatcher) I raised over 150 for sale this year and shipped some in from another BYCer for new blood in my breeder flock.
No lie, they are crazy, yes they run around on the roof, we use a net even to catch 3 mo olds in a pen. They act like Godzilla is after them every time you walk into the room even if you raise one or two with a bunch of chicks. Many people say they are hard to raise, they die easily, ect. The way to keep from killing them in the brooder is to raise them totally hands off! Feed and water calmly, quickly and leave them alone!
They are great for insects, ticks, grasshoppers, cleaning catapiller out of the garden. We had rattlesnakes every year until we turned the gang (11 the first yr) loose 4 yrs ago, havent seen a single one since. I have rescued 2 Bull snakes from them in the front yard this year. They make quite a production alarm calls for anything strange or potentially threating. They do get used to Their people, cats and dogs (ones that dont bother them).
