Look what was in the coop today!!!

What is mazzy? And what are those other crested chicks?
Mazzy was my miracle chick about 5 weeks ago. I had around 30 eggs in the bater and she was the only one that hatched. She came from a friend that has a white silkie roo that I gave him and a white sultan. The mother was a light buff colored polish. She does not have any feathering on her legs so I really don't know what she is other than cute.

The other chicks are polish and polish/sultan. All different colors some have feathered legs some do not.

I thought long and hard about having SQ or not. I get bored with the same colors and have decided to have fun with mutts! I have some really beautiful silkies that I have started from show stock so I will keep that up, but as for the rest it is all fun. I just love the furrier and fluffier the better...lol I have a frizzled pullet cochin, smooth cochins, polish, and silkies so no telling what kind of trouble I will get into. Even thought about mixing my blue cochin with the marans. Furry butt Marans whoo hooo!

O.k. yes I am a bit silly but you know, I was feeling a bit stressed trying to figure out what birds to keep and get serious with, and now that I decided I just want to have pretty birds, I do feel lighter and a lot happier.

sounds perfect..me too...and healthier for the birds...I love lots of colors

I love the excitement of a new batch of chicks that you have no idea how they are going to turn out. It is so much more fun than fretting that the feathering is not right or to much wattle in the wrong places. I am hoping my mixes will be healthier with new genes floating in the pool.

A guinea egg? How cool !!
If that is a guinea egg that was laid in the coop I would love to know how to get mine to lay in the coop. I only have one that was given to me at a feed store. I have found three random eggs over the last few weeks and they are never in the same spot. She roosts with the chickens but I have never seen her anywhere near the hen boxes.

I with ya there! I cant wait to start some projects...but do want some SQ stock as well in some breed...nit sure what though
After much debate I decided since I already have quality silkies to go ahead and stick with them. Any other breed I would have to start from scratch(my others are all hatchery aside from the marans). I might just change my mind next week though. Chicken geometry and all gets complicated.
