Texas

Looking for member that live around the Abilene Texas area. I am getting out of breeding chickens and have some really nice stock that need to go to serious breeders.

I'm a first year chicken keeper and definitely not a breeder, but have extra room if you need to re-home some birds. I'm about 10 minutes south of Abilene.

I'm going insane :sick :barnie :hit My husband brought a load of hay from our horse barn around to the chicken yard but he picked it up off the ground I put it in some nesting boxes & under a hen that just hatched chicks. I felt something & looked at my hands, their covered in tiny, tiny critters MITES of some kind Now I keep finding them crawling on my face I think their in my bathroom on clothes I took off & my hairbrush had some when I knocked it on the sink edge to see if any were on it We picked up all the hay & put DE down everywhere. What else can I do? I keep finding them crawling on me I am going crazy :he

Are they Mites or Seed ticks? We had a Seed tick bloom after it rained 3 days in a row. That is enough to drive you Crazy!

Take all of your clothes off and put them in the washer. Take a shower. Soak the hair brush. Thouroghly vacuum, sweep and mop all floors. If you sat on any furniture vacuum them. It's kind of like lice.

I had mites on my chickens a few years ago and after putting DE in their nest boxes, roost and on the backs of the birds, I never had a problem.

Hi, I am from Pleasanton. We have 25 chickens; 4 leghorns and the rest are a mix of RIR and New Hampshire Reds. Already all laying steadily. Does anyone here do 4H showing of chickens and have advice? My son wants to do chickens this year!

Thank you. If it comes downs to putting them in the freezer or giving them to you, I will contact you. Most of my birds are just real high quality and come from some the best lines (like Sam Brush). It would be sad if they did not go to a breeder that could appreciate them.

So sorry! I would be livid. Hay is not cheap. Have you called and told the sellers. Where did you get it so I know not to get any from them. I got fire ants in mine a while back and I thought that was bad, but mites........ geez that's messed up. I am surprised they did not notice when they were loading. Go get 2 40 lb bags of DE and put it everywhere. Do it now not later, before the little buggers breed and infest your horses and other livestock.

It's not in the baled hay. I throw the hay on the ground for the sheep & it was hay that had been there for a while that my husband picked up that seems to have them. They don't seem to be biting me just crawling on me so maybe it's some kind of plant mite-not a bird mite I Hope :(
