Texas

I have a question about Texas.  I'm brand new to Texas, in the San Antonio area.  I've heard reference to "the valley" when I've been at a nursery talking about things like fruit trees. Where is that?

Good luck with your facebook page.  I was hoping this thread would help me with the issues you want to address, but it seems to spend an inordinate amount of time on topics that lean to the political side.

Okay, well, the valley is directly south of San Antonio, about 4.5 hours south. It's right next to the Mexican border. It's technically the Rio Grande Valley, but "the Valley" is it's nickname because it sometimes feels like a totally different entity than Texas or Mexico. And we definitely grow lots of tropical fruit down here. Loads of citrus, but other crops as well, such as corn, cotton, lettuce, cabbage, soy, etc.

I know it seems like the political stuff takes over, but it'll pass once everyone remembers what forum we're on, haha! I welcome you to Texas! It's kind of a weird place to live because it always seems to be a culture shock for people. I hope you're adapting well. There are loads of people on BYC to assist you with any issues you may be having. If you have any questions, I can try to answer them. Or I'll see if I can point you in the right direction. ^_^

I had an appointment to take my dog to the vet today... He jumped out the car window and broke his leg in three places...he's always loved car rides and never did that before... Hope he don't do that again after the vet bill took out our entire months salary...

OMG!! That's terrible! I'm sorry for your dog and you! I hope he gets better soon.

Our old dog did that same thing only she was attached to a leash and she nearly hung herself.

Glad to see everyone this morning! How are you guys?

Working!!!!

But while I'm here.....

I THINK I've talked my husband into a bigger coop after we saw a 8x10 shed at Lowes for $800! Not cheap but cheaper than the $350+ I've spent on the hoop-coop! Grrrr. Yeah, they are "cheap" if you use cheap materials or already have the materials on hand, but lasting quality from scratch - NO. I will be glad to get the stinky chicks outside. Now I need to call Sunrise and see if she has Legbars....they are soooo pretty!!

I mean NO!......wait, what? :D

K, gotta work!! :)

I hear that! We have over a grand in our coop/run. But you know, my chickens are safe and happy, so to me it was worth it.....now the week's worth of work DH spent, well, for him that may be debatable!

But hey Momma is happy, which makes Daddy happy, happy, happy!

The TX thread is basically for people in TX along with "misplaced" Texans in other states, but it isn't necessarily just all chicken stuff. Some people have thought that it was just a place to announce your location in TX, others that it was only about chicken topics. But the thread has a life of its own and it's basically a bunch of Texans sitting on their "backporch" and chatting, so the the topics range far and wide sometimes depending on the conversation flow - just like when you're shooting the breeze in person with someone. Sometimes you'll find people chiming in on a particular topic, other times they won't, so you'll see some people here and there and then you may not see them for a while. Just like in real life. Hopefully you won't be put off by it and if the topic of conversation doesn't interest you, feel free to do what everyone else does and just skip those until the topic is something you're interested in, or ask a question/make a comment on a topic that you have on your mind at that time.

My NNs didn't come in, they are slated for next week. AND, we are going to be able to order some JGs that will be ready September 18th! Sooooo, I am super excited that I will have more babies to take care of
