This was my solution to gardening here in Abilene during this drought. It is made almost completely of repurposed oil field junk.

That looks freaking awesome! Wife decided to buy a kit greenhouse this spring. Of course it's still sitting in the garage in boxes. We keep changing our minds on where to site it. Our back yard is 1/2 acre or so fenced (1 acre lot). Might have to move the coop and re-partition the area of the yard so we can range the chickens on 1 section and have the annual garden in the other section. Still leaves the question of where to site the greenhouse!

How do you keep your greenhouse from overheating? Do you have to roll up the sides or are the fans thermostatically controlled and able to keep it cool? Same question for the evaporation setup. Controller based or do you just run it on a timer or just when you get out there to turn it on? I think the greenhouse kit has an option for a section of the roof to be a pop-up vent, either manually or motor controlled on a thermostat. Here in Abilene I'm afraid of how hot the greenhouse would get in the summer, which is another reason we didn't set it up yet.

Ok, straight up I'm a dog person. I've befriended a few cats in my life but all this talk of feral cats and a recent NPR story about horse meat slaughter plants made me curious about cat meat.

I'll admit I chuckled at the "roof rabbit" nickname.

I'm not selling anything at the moment, but I want to start selling baked goods from the house and at farmers markets...Angel Food Cakes, Breads, Pies, Honey (no bees yet, but I have the books!), Goat milk (no goats yet, either...), garden surplus (insert laugh here) and of course soap and eggs.

I have sold soap to friends/family and I used to sell eggs from the house but not a lot.

These are things I want to do to earn a little extra money after I retire.

You are one ambitious lady!!! I have been looking at bees (I have the books, too) and goats.

Don't give up on your dream! I hope you make it.

The pump for the evap walls runs contiueslly durning the summer. Becuase of the thermal difference (hot rises, cold air falls) there is a constant natural air flow in the GH. The fans are are thermostatically controlled attic fans. One comes on at 90 degrees and the other comes on at 100. The double inflated wall and the shade cloth also help keep the temps down.

I had a website last year (when I was in college). I actually created it from scratch with HTML & CSS coding. Heck, I even designed it in Photoshop myself and created my own images. It was really fun. I think if you can find a way to create your own domain for a decent price, it's a good investment. If I had the money, I'd sign up for a five year domain. It's generally cheaper that way.

Well, you are much smarter than I because all I plan on doing is using a web page helper site! I really don't even know what HTML and CSS mean in real language!

I have reserved other domain names but have done nothing with them...the were specific toward soap and toward caramel corn (I had a thing for caramel corn earlier this year....), but this new one is more broad based but geared toward "country" things which will include crafts, cooking and products. As soon as I get the site going and the business name registered, I'll give out the address.

Did I tell y'all I took the Food Handler's test online this morning? It's easy (although I did not make 100%) but now I am "legal" to bake and sale from home/farmers markets.

Glad to hear Mandy is just ignoring us.

As soon as I get the site going and the business name registered, I'll give out the address.

Yay! That's cool. I wrote my reps asking them to vote yes on making the new cottage food laws better. They didn't do everything but it's a start.

It's just a bunch of technical mumbo jumbo, haha! It's one of my skill sets that I hope will eventually lead to an actual job. I create logos, brochures, websites, posters (and in my spare time, I'll take photographs and turn them into digital paintings).

It's fun and I'm kinda glad I didn't go to school for journalism like I'd planned.

Can you explain how this works? Is there a how to thread yet? This looks interesting!
