I would leave them in a coop with a light that at least comes on at night. or just leave it on 24 hours with plenty of feed and water as long as they have room to get away from the heat they will do fine . no drafts of course.I could use some advice. Yesterday, we acquired three peeps (two barred rocks and one easter egger) who are about 3 weeks old. A friend had purchased them at the local feed store, and after two weeks was told by her landlord that she could not have chickens. Right now we have them in an outdoor coop, and they're as happy as clams. But the outdoor temperature is still in the 60s and 70s. We can bring them into the garage when the cold front hits tomorrow night.
But in early December we're going out of town for several days. By then the peeps will be about 4 1/2 weeks old, probably too young to be left in an outdoor coop. Our other chickens are all adults and cold hardy. But suspect that these peeps will still be too young to be outside when the temp gets into the 30s and 40s.
It's wet and 37*, very windy too - gusts to 30mph. Chance of more rain so it is cloudy. My single pane windows make it look like the house is a sauna. Come on Wednesday! 50's and sun!!!
Wish I could stay in bread today.
I am making bread.I started it last night so it will be ready to go into the over soon. My mom wants me to make the cranberry orange version when she is here next week. I have a lemon herb (rosemary, lemon thyme and basil) version going. No cheese in it though.
Stay warm and dry everyone! Have a blessed day.![]()
My 'soup" recipe. Yummmmy!
It is 38 here now and raining! The poor young chickens don't see to mind. I don't have heat in their coop because they are still in the hoop-coop and the covered area where they sleep is only 4x4, so for 18 half grown chickens that makes for a cozy temperature. The older chickens have a heat lamp on. It's not that cold but the rain makes the air feel damp. They all received extra feed today, even the horse.
They are wonderful and you can make it so many different ways. Read the comments for ideas. I love how you can start it the night before you bake it and do nothing to it. Easiest bread ever! Those loafs on that site look fabulousI will be making some tomorrow!![]()
I am hoping mean 18 year old horse and not a teenage person. There are times I think my 19 year old son would benefit from a night in the barn (if I had one).Extra feed & hay for my sheep, their not too happy with the cold & rainPut my 18 yr. old in the barn with the other 2 horses today. Put a windbreak on the Wyandotte coop![]()
