I have an African Wildcat that someone found as a young kitten in the desert in Saudi Arabia. Domestic cats are descended from African Wildcats but are a separate species. A lot of the Saudi street cats are close crosses with the African Wildcat that is found in the deserts just outside of the towns and villages. He is a most unusual cat. As a kitten, he had no inflection in his voice. He had only one call, a deep one-tone "rrrooww" like a tom cat. No other sounds other than a purr. It was an odd sound to come out of a little kitten. As he grew, he learned from the other cats to use inflection in his voice. He's such a neat cat. He is huge, weighing 18 or 19 pounds when he is the proper weight.

That s a beautiful kitty. Love the elongated ears on the wildcats.

It seems a few of my chickens have fowl pox. What do I do about it?

I have been putting off processing a couple of 8-month old cockerels. This might be the push I need to do it instead of procrastinating. Can I eat them if they have fowl pox or do I have to wait until the get better?

To cure the pox, just isolate the bird, rub some Vicks VapoRub (this is for cough, you can buy at drug store) over their face. This will stop the pox from spreading to their eyes. Give it 1-2 weeks and the bird will get over the pox. Don't peel the scales, just let it fall off by itself.

The pox is not transferred to human so I don't think this will affect your food consumption. Just make sure it is cooked.

Sure I would do it. At least she is on THIS side of Houston and it would only take me 2 hours to get there...with no traffic.

I have two Red Star birds from Murray McMurray and they have a very quiet temperament...if your birds are like that then I recommend the Black Star production bird because mine have a similar temperament.

Edited: My buff cochin hen is very quiet (she does sound like a duck, though...) and my black australorps are quiet and still laying at 5 years old. Do you want a colorful flock, colorful eggs or what?

My chickens got aviary pox once. The vet told me to keep them from getting stressed, keep things clean and add food high in vit. C. They all survived and should never get it again.
