Texas

:bow Yes Tammy...........

Hey, I have a question. When the cold blew in, all my birds started coughing and hacking. Some birds took it differently. Some birds had a hard time breathing and some didn't, but the ones that didn't, had eye discharge and didn't want to eat or drink. I gave them tetracycline to help them out in warm water, and after a couple of days they were all fine. Most of them got over it on their own. I've got one young 3 month old silver-laced wyandotte pullet that two huge swollen eyes, and cannot see to eat or drink. The only thing I can do is hold her and dip her to get her to drink. How do I get her to eat? And what do I give her to make her eyes unswell so she can see to eat? I have her vetrx thinking she had eye worms, but it only made it worse.

Skunks smell like bottled lemon juice to me. I'm weird.

My daughter says it smells like spaghetti.

Good morning Texas! 10 more school days for this girl! Well I'm acquiring two more chickens and a coop this weekend. Can't believe this. I don't need the four chickens I have right now. Much less 2 more. I'm not even sure what breed they are, only that they are hens. About the same age as the ones I have now. Since they are coming with their own coop there shouldn't be a huge problem with bullying. Fingers crossed. I've truly lost my mind:he

Six isn't too bad. I have 8 now and that number is probably my limit. My coops and yard could handle more. I just don't think I need more to feed and clean up after.

I have a question.

What do you guys spend every month on chicken feed, supplies and care? Or a year if you don't know the month break down.

Do you sell your extra eggs?

So far I have spent 125$ on the coop, 100$ on the chickens, one has died, 15$ on the largest bag of crumbles ever, 6 on oyster shells, 205$ on the feeder and water dish. That's from oct. I won't have to buy food any more for a long time-mine fee range all day and get left overs from the school cafeteria and stuff we are done eating at home. I think that if I will stop buying chickens I shouldn't have to spend anything else.

I spend about $45 a month in feed for 2 bags of layer pellets and 1 bag of scratch seed. I own 70 chickens.
I've spent about $150 on medication this month alone, but I didn't have any to start with and the medication should last me several years.

I've spent a lot more than this, but it was merely for comfort that the chickens could have done without, as I spoil them with 1500 watt infrared heaters and de-icer heaters for the automatic watering.

I do sell my extra eggs. Once I get everything all up and running correctly, I hope to be selling my eggs for incubation to people looking for certain breeds.
