Texas

I don't see silver-laced wyandottes as being exotic....lol.....I also have blue-laced red wyandottes....now golden wyandottes are kinda exotic to me. But the most exotic bird I own, in my opinion, is my salmon faverolles.

Hello everyone,
My name is Luke. I live in Elm Mott, Texas, near Waco. I finally joined this site and someone just recently sent this link to me as being the Texas Room for bloggers. I didn't know there was such a thing. So, again, "Hello."

Hello Luke. Welcome. I am sort of a newbie. I love BYC. The Texas group is nice. I started out in a NO group and boy they have colder weather than we do and have to do a lot in the winter.

Luke - Did you get an answer to your disease problem? I looked in the handy Chicken Health Handbook and I came across symptoms that sounds like your birds: Infectious Laryngtracheitis aka/Avian Diphtheria. It is common. EDITED: Also look at Infectious Coryza.

Whenever presented with a sickness I always look up the symptoms and assume it is the most common disorder.

Ok I guess I say exotic depending upon what I can get within 20 miles of my house and not going through the mail. I saw one chicken, some kinda black something or another, that was 5000$. For one chicken. Solid black gorgeous

I have a question.

What do you guys spend every month on chicken feed, supplies and care? Or a year if you don't know the month break down.

Do you sell your extra eggs?

I have 34 chickens, but 18 of them are less than 5 months old. Right now I go through about one 50# bag a week, With the recent cold I also had to buy a 50# of cracked corn for about $10, however, my laying pellets have lasted longer because of the corn. During the cold they received half laying pellets (for the nutritional value) and half cracked corn, because it keeps them warm in cold temps (you don't want to give them corn in warm weather). They also received suet bricks at $1.50 each and I've gone through about 6. Plus, I buy cheap wheat bread for treats that they get every few days, but not so much during the cold weather because I want them to eat the corn.

So, for the last two weeks I've spent a little over $50 in feed alone. That does not include the water/electricity or cedar shavings.

I do sell my excess eggs but I haven't in the last couple years because my old hens just aren't producing as many. The 17 new girls I have will remedy that situation come Spring. If you are wondering, $3 a dozen is about average for ungraded eggs. I've never had what you would call a "booming" business, hit-n-miss is a more accurate description. A lot of times I would donate dozens of eggs to the Senior Center through my dad (he won't do it anymore because they fight over them).

...did that thing come with Golden Eggs ???

Guess who might get to buy that new tree after all!

The plumber came and got the water heater to light.  Apparently you don't follow the directions and do it differently.  It is working now and hopefully will stay that way.  There is a chance it won't stay lit after the it is done heating the water.  If that happens I need a new burner.  The heater is under warranty but I would have to pay the plumber to install it.

Here is the great news.  He did not charge me for what he did today. :)

And on another note. Check out this guy's paintings.

Roodoodle's art is pretty cool, love watercolors :) glad you didn't need a new wh, we weren't that lucky a while back :(

I read up on it. It is basically avian pox. However, my birds didn't have any wart like lesions for symptoms. However, a good friend of mine about 15 miles away also had the same problem. She did have avian pox. She had the dry version. Mine sounds like the wet version. But they act like they are over it now, except for this one bird. And the only medication I gave them was a tetracycline drink mix.
