Texas

I need some advice.

I've lived my adult life overseas in company housing where I called maintenance when a light bulb needed changing. Neither me nor my husband are remotely handy. I develop a rash if I touch a screw driver. A hammer caused painful blisters.

It seems I have a problem with the sump pump in the cabana. There's a big, bright red light that's turned itself on on top of a box with "Advanced Aerobic Programmer" written on it. The previous owner told my husband that was for the sump pump. All the circuits breakers seem to be on.

My house is above the septic tank, but the cabana by the pool is not. I gather I do not use any sink or toilet in the cababana. Can anyone give me some insight into what could be going on? Will I have a sewage nightmare, with the septic tank backing up through the toilet? (It was emptied and cleaned out before we bought the place 18 months ago.) I am having visions of Lucy Ricardo and the chocolate factory, but substitute sewage instead.

Who do I call?

Thanks for any advice.
DH says it could be the high level alarm in the last tank (where the chlorine and sprinklers are)> Pull the cover off this tank and see how close the water level is to the top. When did you last see the sprinkler run.

With the COLD temps in Texas dipping into single digits tonight is anyone turning on heat lamps? My 16 week old chickens are in a coop with ventilation and no drafts...should they be ok? I only have 4 of them so they could huddle for warmth but I believe at least 2 are molting (roo neck is pretty bare). If molting in these temps would you use a heat source? We gave them warm oats and raisins right before lock in. We use sand bedding so I put in some hay on top of that.

Thank you for any and all reassurance and tips/hints.

I don't believe it to be a 'sump pump' it is an ESP electric submersible pump. If the air compressor or pump isn't working (have the lines frozen) you will need to have a septic service co come out to service.

Is it an aerobic septic system? Ours dosent have to be pumped very often but it runs a sprinkler on a twice a day basis. or when the water level triggers it. Did the owner leave a manual for the system?

No manual. I have what seems to be a regular septic tank and drain field up beside the house. The pool and cabana are down in a hollow below the house, so the grey water and sewage from the cabana has to be pumped up to the septic tank.

I just haven't a clue who to call. A plumber?

Thanks.

I suspect what I have and what you are talking about aren't the same. What do you mean by asking when I saw sprinklers run? What sprinklers? I've got a problem with the pump that gets the grey water and sewage water from my pool house up (8 feet) to the septic tank beside the house.

I've stopped panicking--big glowing red lights that aren't supposed to be on always scare me to death.

Can you explain this sprinkler you are talking about? I had the septic tank cleaned and inspected when I bought the place. I don't know anything about a sprinkler. The pool house has a kitchen and bathroom and it is 8 or 10 feet below the septic tank. I was told there is a "sump pump" to move sewage and grey water to the septic tank.

Who do I call? A plumber? A septic tank installer? When I moved in, the owner gave me the card of a "husband for hire." I hope I still have his card somewhere! I can whelp puppies and foal mares. Just not handy with the hardware stuff!

Wow! You covered the show very well!! Having never been to a poultry show I was trying to describe it to my husband when i returned home. We used to show dogs but the thing that cracked me up was all of the roosters all going off at once at 9 am. If you walked up to a cage they would give you a look and then crow their loudest. You couldn't hear the girl who was doing announcements over the loudspeaker.
I love hearing all of the males crowing back and forth to each other all over the building like round robin. As the day went on it got pretty busy in the isle ways with lots of visitors.

Thankyou. I hated to miss it. Maybe next year.
Congrats on doing so well.
Thank you, I wish everyone could come and see all of the super nice birds that come from all over Texas together and compete. This is the best show.

I wish I could of met some people who went but maybe next time.

I posted pictures of the Bluebonnet Classic if you want to see some of the birds that were there.
