The big floofy Brahma Brahma again The lil Araucana girl, she lacks cheek tufts and I was told she lays green eggs, so I wonder if she possibly might be a cross. But who cares, she is cute with her rumplessness~ The Jersey giant girl. I am thinking about calling her Yumyum cause I said that while I was feeding them a strawberry and she licked her beak haha. The three of themn together. they are so docile and run and try to hide from Trouble. I feel bad for them. Hopefully things will get sorted out soon. Trouble was locked in "chicken jail". She was locked inside the coop so the others could get some nibbles and drink.

This whole no egg stunt is getting old. 18 layers and I'm getting 1 egg every 3 days. I have one hen who hasn't laid since I bought her in June. Thoughts? Advice?

I do not have extra light as I want them to take a break, but did not expect them to stop. I feed either a 16% or a 20% protein feed. As well as oats, barley, and scratch as a snack. They free range otherwise. I left them in their run for over a week in case of them nesting in spots I haven't found. Didn't change anything. Fed cat food for about two weeks for extra protein and that didn't make a difference.

Does a 10x10 coop sound sfine for up to 20 birds? and a 10x8 coop sound fine for up to 15 birds? I am thinking about building a large building and having three mix breed flocks and then start breeding for Salmon Faverolles, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, Red Shouldered Yokohamas, and Quail Antwerp Belgian D'Anvers. So I would end up with 7 flocks total. There would be five coops that were 10x8 and two that were 10x10. Also how many chicks could I raise in a 8x4 brooder till they were about eight weeks old? On the same note, would a 10x10 coop be fine for ten turkeys, and would a 10x5 be fine for ten ducks? These are just the coops not the runs. The runs for the smaller chickens coops i plan to be 200sq feet, the large coops 300sp feet, the turkey runs would be 500sq feet, and the duck runs would be 450sq feet. I heard that ducks in general do not go inside their coop much. I was thinking about Welsh Harlequins and Muscovys, one drake in each pen and up to 8-9 ducks for them max. Same goes for the turkeys, there will be one tom and 8-9 hens, no more. Just looking for some advice. I am drawing floor plans for when I get to move back to the country. Dreaming is nice to do sometimes. =)

On another note, I let the girls out in the yard today. Trouble would occasionally run across the yard to attack the other girls, otherwise all was well. The only problem is they don't like me yet so it is a little bit of work getting them to go back into the coop. The jersey giant and the araucana are laying, the buff brahma hasn't laid an egg yet. The lady I got them from said she hadn't started layign over there either, so I am excitedly awaiting her first egg.

That's a lot of good food. Do you ration it out or is it free choice? Are your birds too fat? That can effect laying. How old are they? I am getting eggs from most of my (nearly) 6 month olds and my old ladies (5 years old) are laying too...that is, the ones that do still lay.

I would say look up the min requirements for floor space for all of the different types of poultry. Their housing requirements will all be different. Also, will they be locked in the coop all day, are you counting the roost space as part of their floor space? Do you have a covered run for each coop?

I had read that you double the floor space for turkeys, so I was going to give them 10sq feet for the turkeys in their coop, and I think 50sq feet in their run. I plan to have the run covered in netting , i want to have a few trees in there and I figured netting would be easy to cur around and attack to the tree so that the chickens still had shade. i was going to do 6-8ft fences, not sure what I want to use yet, whether I just want to go with chain link, or chicken wire. These are just future plans. As for the roost space I have not measured it out yet. I plan to have three or four ten foot roosts in each coop.

My barred rock chick already looks it has a little comb....is early comb development a sign of a roo or am i over analyzing? Lol or is it a breed thing. None of my other chicks have anything close to that pronounced

I would not recommend giving any Aspirin.  I don't which pain killers is toxic to chickens and what is not.  For example, Tylenol will kill dogs, and dogs metabolize Aspirin at half the rate of people, so you can overdose a dog by giving the same amount (by weight) in the same time frames as a human.

Also, by relieving pain, the animal might do more damage to the injury.  Pain has a useful purpose--it reminds the animal is hurt, so they protect their injury.

I don't know how much this chicken is worth to you, but you might take it to a farm vet.

I'm taking your input and not giving any meds. My hope is that time will heal.

I’ll need to get out tomorrow and take a photo with everything cleaned up. I wasn’t able to get one today. The garage looks better now too. I’m going to paint it to match the brick. I can have them color match my brick. I found one in the yard from when the house was built. Forty-six years after the house was built I found a left over brick. What are the odds?​
