You just had a huge one last weekend. I think there is also the big State Fair in October. Those are two off the top of my head.

The bad thing about those shows are that you have to pay for admission to the full event, not just the poultry shows. We prefer to go to the fair during the week when it is not so crowded, but after already paying out the nose to get into that, not to mention paying for parking, the idea of having to pay parking and fair admission all over again for the poultry show on a busy weekend is not that appealing. Not to mention the horrid parking and crowd conditions. Would much prefer to go to a show not affiliated with big events like that. And the fair grounds are in a part of town that you feel like you have to be armed in order to come out alive.

Yes we went to the stock show this weekend. It was $38 for us to go, including parking, and the reason was the show. Which was nice, but not great. When I went there were birds, no speakers, no booths selling supplies, etc. That's the kind I see posted online, usually way up in the northern us.

Really. Well, sounds like I didn't miss much then. I have people tell me about the shows up north and they all sound terrific compared to what TX has. I really wonder if it's because TX is more of a big ag cattle state than a small poultry farmer/fancier type state.

Bunnies are sweet. I worked for a photographer once who would take Easter pics at preschools with chicks or bunnies. My job...herd the bunnies and chicks back into the frame. I fell in love with one of the bunnies and she came home with me when the photos were done. I found out big bunnies are not as friendly as when they are babies.
My feed store has a Flemish bunny named Sebastian. He is very friendly and a very popular fixture at their store. A big ham bunny!

the top pic is a small portion of the flock with a silver campine in the front, as well as the cockerel in back. campines are one of my main breeds and I have both silvers and golds. There is also my blue amraucana, rir, and barred in rock in the group.

the bottom pic is of my quail dAnver hen peanut. She won Junior Champ at Bluebonnet Classic 2013... really like that breed.

I am hoping to get some more show bantams this year!

I may have to try Silver Campine some day. First I want a real Gold Lace Wyandotte.

It's flippin' cold outside! I even got pictures, but first, I gotta deal with the hard stuff. Two of the chicks passed away. Both weren't looking like they were bouncing back from the trip, so I made sure to give them water and gave them some chick starter (in a mash so they would swallow it), but it didn't help. It was unfortunate, but for the most part, the other chicks are looking pretty good. Three, from what I could tell, were eating plenty and the last chick was sleepy, but still moving around with the others. I'm gonna keep on eye on her, just in case. I'll post some updated photos in about a week, assuming all are doing pretty well. Hopefully we won't have anymore losses. I also meant to post more news about New Year's Eve chick, but I haven't gotten a chance to bring him out of the garage. He poops everywhere and it's a little daunting, haha! Secondly, the muscovies are now incorporated! Yesterday, whilst feeding the chickens/ducks, they were watching me from outside the coop and were pushing against the door. I figured it couldn't hurt to see how well the chickens reacted to them, so I let them in. Everyone was too distracted eating to actually care and once they realized there were three new birds (one of which is huge), they didn't really care. There haven't been any problems since and they are doing really well with the cold weather. Now, ice photos! I'm so excited because the last time it got this icy, I took pictures, too! It's tradition now, haha! I didn't edit any of these, though, so the lighting isn't quite right. But the ice sure is pretty, huh? :D
Sorry about the loss of your little chicks. Hope the others make it okay. LOVE the ice pics! Great job! :thumbsup
