:frow Welcome from Rosenberg!!  What kind of chicks did you order?

Don't forget the pictures--we LOVE pictures!

Lisa :)

I ordered 15 Rhode Island Red hens , 15 Plymouth rock hens and 6 dark Cornish roosters. Plan on thinning the roo down to 2 after they get bigger and see how their attitude is.

I guess I see all these coops and people building foundations, framing windows, adding insulation..
I pretty capable but it just seems like there's so much more thought to put into it.
I'm not looking for anything crazy..we rent and will hopefully buy in a few years, so I don't want anything too permanent...
Nothing I look at buying has a decent sized run. I guess I could buy a coop and build the run myself?

Someone down the road from us in Leander builds and sells these for $500.

Wow, a nice home .. but $500, I have to think about investing that much. At Callahan store, they have several coops for sales too, ranging about $200-350. Building one will save half of the cost.

I know we've all seen it but I compared one of my backyard eggs to a store bought egg.
Then the hens are busy! An egg a day each day this week, and today,BOTH laid eggs. One lays small lighter eggs while the other is larger and darker, both are the same age and breed.

I'm planning on building this coop with a large run area around it. Mine won't be cedar though. I need it to cost as little as possible.

When I only had 4 BO I could tell by the size, shape and color whose was whose.
