Texas

Yes, but I don't want "red pullets" or "mixed pullets" or "assorted bantams."  Their specialty breeds are spaced out and come in on different weeks.  If I want two sussex, two EEs, and two minorcas, for example, I can't come in at three different times and buy two chicks.  I have to buy 6 chicks with every transaction.  So, for every time I buy two chicks I want, I have to buy either six of that breed, or four more chicks I don't want.  Ergo, to get the mix I mention above, I may have to buy 18 chicks, 12 of which I don't want/need.  Get it?

I got it and still so glad we don't live close or I'd be taking what you don't want.

Oh they are so cute!  Glad you so far away or all my work and plans that I did this morning would all be for naught.  There is the factor of waiting for my heat plate to come to consider as well. ;)

We are all so bad at enabling on here!

Question:  Would this be worth getting?  I plan on using bowls not nipples, but this eliminates wet babies. I have the reamers I ordered I can use for both the food and water.

I love the one off 380. They are so sweet and helpful, without coming off as patronizing.
The guy at Chestnut appears to be non discriminating...he gave my husband a hard time when he went in to see if they sold chick grit and wood pellets. (They don't sell either btw).
You're WAY too encouraging..I'll think about it. Are they strait run?
There's a lady about an hour south or so who has Olive Eggers...;)
I just heard they weren't as friendly, and that's a big factor for me. I love a colorful egg basket though..or I guess the idea of one, seeing as I don't have any eggs yet..

She's a bad influence, huh?? ;)
I guess it's pay back

Tell me about it!:barnie
My house never stays clean for more than 15 minutes...
Toddlers....  Whaddya gonna do? :p

toddlers? Mine are 8 and 23 that actually live here and contribute to this mess. Never stops. Doesn't help that my backyard is so slushy from the rain that I track grass and mud in every time I come in.

Hi folks...an FYI... I may be putting this up a bit early but thought I would mention it for thought...We have an aquaintance thru our folks church that will be selling his chickens. He has 3 kids that are all in agg and they each raised 100 chickens. The fair is this weekend and after they will be for sale. I was told they are barred rock. These are laying age hens. Don't know how much he will want for them. Anyway Mom is going to call him tonight to get varified info. I live about 5 miles north of Willis so if anyone might be interested I'm sure we can work out transfer. Anyway I will know more tomorrow so will post again when I do. Thanks Magpie

I'm a bad influence?! Who wasn't getting chicks until next spring that has now ordered chicks? I am getting pullets. He is sexing them for me. I'll have to wait on the Olive Egger. Maybe I will get some eggs for my silkies to hatch. Oh, have you seen the red silkies?

I may be getting 3 after all. uh oh!

My JG roo Cogburn. He is 5 months old, and very, very big!
He is huge!! How much does he eat a day? Very nice looking bird too.

My "buff" may be a partridge. She couldn't tell, I didn't care..etc. Lol.
I'll have to look it up. Could you tell the difference yet?
I may take them out for some supervised outside time today after work. They're still too small to be out alone, even in the "grow out pen".

He is so goofy, it' endearing! <3
I don't know when you can tell them apart. I'm sure a trained eye could. I can just tell you they are chicks at this point. ;)

I'll call and have it tacked on to my order. I like how it looks and won't have to worry about the water soaking them.

Good afternoon Texas!!!

I have a question for y'all.

Do any of you get birds based on their heat tolerance? I am near Crockett in East Tx and it gets very hot. I am about 1/3rd finished with my coop/run. It is 10X25 and will be roofed with left over barn roofing. 1/2 inch hardware cloth all around. I also will be using heavy duty tarps on all sides except the southeast, so they will provide shade also. I will also be using electric poultry netting to allow the birds to range too!

Appreciate all the help!!!!

David

I see the dilemma...If you really want specific breeds, your best bet is to order them from a hatchery, along with something that's easy to identify and sell easily, sex-links, and then sell the extras on craigslist. I know...not exactly ideal...other than that, its going to be a pain. Maybe you can hang out at TSC and have someone already buying chicks buy the 2 extras for you? Then repeat.

You mean it never gets better???

I'm 24 and I'm pretty sure I still cause my mom some grief..but I haven't lived with her in awhile.
Can't clean with 'em, can't live without 'em!

I would love to be working on it right now but this thing keeps getting in the way called "work". Yep thats a nasty four letter word I just used....sorry ladies for the profanity.
You said that four letter word that keeps holding me back from everything I'd LIKE to be doing... unfortunately, these bills don't pay themselves!
