Here is a picture of the chicken found in South Austin a couple of days ago. I am thinking about giving it a home. I was hoping it's owner would claim it. It was given to a neighbor, but returned to the finder's home today.
Should I worry about exposing my flock to something? The original post said something about it's beak being broken. I feel bad for the poor thing.

I took in 3 hens form a family friend who was moving. My experience has taught me not to again I hand raised played and fed all my chicks they loved me However when the new ones were finally introduced they were not as comfortable as mine and I am still working to gain total trust of my flock back. due to the squawking panicing and general dont touch me behavior of the others. something to think about you may want to keep her by herself until you have her trust.

Besides the flock dynamics - Yes, you should always quarantine for a month before bringing a new bird in other wise you will take the chance of bringing something in and loosing them all.

No chickens for me this year. I'm getting hit with a $500+ repair bill for my car. Most of it is labor. :(
What a bummer! I know how much you have been planning on getting your chicks soon! Just keep on the look out for cheap/free material for your future coop and hopefully you will be able to get them sooner than you think.

TOTALLY BUMMED!!
I have so much to get done on my coop and I can't get anything done due to having to wait on everyone else. My husband is gone for 2 weeks, my son has been busy all week, so the only other truck I can get my hands on is my mother-in-laws truck and she doesn't think I can pull "that big trailer" around all by my self.

SO, I can't get go the barn siding from my dads or all the wire I need or the posts or the wood or anything else!!! I could get a lot done all by my self if only I could get my supplies!!
THIS JUST BITES!!!

Hopefully it will all work out and you can get your hands on a truck to get your supplies. By any chance can your mother-in-law pull the trailer or let her go with you to "help".

Just be sure and quarantine her for a while. You don't want to get your own flock sick by taking her in.

Feeling a little under the weather today. We were up late last night. Coming home from granddaughters tball practice, we almost hit a couple of horses out on the highway. DH and I flagged traffic away from them, called sheriff's office to report them and then proceeded to catch them to keep them from getting run over/causing an accident. It was dark, cold and windy as all get out. Long story short, took the cops over 3 hours to finally get a trailer to haul them away. It was almost midnight by the time we got home and in the bed. Makes you realize why people don't want to get involved.

My chicks are doing good. I built them 2 roosts to put in the brooder today. They had fun jumping up/down on them today.

Oh, my heart hurts for the poor lost chicken. I'm praying her owner finds her or she finds a wonderful new home. I have decided it is best I don't adopt her. I would not be able to forgive myself if anything happened to my girls.

MsJellybean I am sorry your repair bill is going to be so expensive, but girl you could get a couple of chickens and a small coop to "get your feet wet" and it would not cost too much. Perfect? No but doable.
I mean you are already fermenting feed!

That as a very nice thing you folks did. My father in law hit a cow that was wandering the highway at 3am (he works weird hours) a few years back. He wasn't hurt but it totaled his truck and the cow had to be put down. So take heart, it was a trial for y'all but the horses were safe and so were other folks. Can say that's about par for the sherrif's department though. Glad all are safe. Rest and feel better tomorrow.

Mo progress:

I have one more roof panel to cut and the rest of the ridge to install and the roof is DONE!

Roost and poop tray. It's coated in the BlackJack Rubber roof patch that the floor is coated in. Should make it good and waterproof. The poop tray will have that PDZ stuff in it to keep smells done and make it easier to clean up. I have one of these on each side of the coop.

Covered the windows in 2 layers of welded wire. I think it should be good enough. Might add a layer of chicken wire over it as well.

How it looks from the door. Floor is covered in rubber coat, but I am still going to do the deep litter method on the floor using pine shavings. I'm also debating hanging my chick brooder above the nesting boxes and making door that swings down for access. Chickens will be moving in ASAP!
