Your baby is sooo cute!! and the fuzzy ones are too! Here is what hatched 13 days ago
And here is what hatched 3 days ago
The featherless Grandbaby hatches are the best!!Those featherless hatches are to die for. I'll keep y'all updated, next visit is in two weeks unless I get sick again. I should actually get to SEE the alien growing inside me then. Thanks for all the congrats though!![]()
So I ventured off into other regions of this forum and people are pretending they are fairies and wolves and mutant zombies and then they are actually acting it out and conversing about it....what gives with that?
Those are forums for the people that have front yard chickens...
That looks like the Cadbury eggs!!! I just to love them!Okay....here is my #9 Marans eggs. This is the darkest egg I have ever seen. I was a fluke egg. The hen was locked out of the coop all day and I think she held the egg in since she couldn't get to her nesting box. The next day I found this egg. It was from the Cottage Hill line.
This is my largest egg. It was also a nice dark one. Easily a #7. This was from the Kostas line.
Next thing you know it will be mutant chicken zombies!!!I'll keep my live yard birds out back. No mutants or zombies for me. Lol.![]()

If my kids thought that moving the chickens to the front yard had even a .000000000001% chance of bringing on mutants or zombies, I would wake up in the morning to a rearrange yard! If someone so much as sneezes in our house someone yells 'Patient Zero!'. That being said, my son made a 110 on his AP English project on 'How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse'...we must be doing something right!![]()
On a serious note, friends don't let friends keep backyard chickens in the front yard...
Super funny!!Fortunately, I have two acres of backyard. No worries here. Good thing too. Chicken math is setting in. Started with 30 sweet birds, looks like the next ones are soon to arrive. Love my feathered friends. Remember, if you don't want flack, keep 'em out back. Lol.(Super lame, I know.)
Backyardchickens.com
breeds genetics and showing forum has info on chicken sperm. and Turkey too![]()
copied this from *Chicken Sperm Bank page 3*
This is from the Merck Vet manual: Chicken and turkey semen may be frozen, but reduced fertility limits usage to special breeding projects. Under experimental conditions, fertility levels of 90% have been obtained in hens inseminated at 3-day intervals with 400-500 million frozen-thawed chicken spermatozoa.
BYC Everything you want to know about Chickens![]()
and some things that might surprise you!![]()
Yep, don't venture away and if you must then do the buddy system!!Ken cancelled his FB account, so he put it on Vimeo. I then put it on here.
You are sooooo bad. I really want my bathroom back. I have plans to paint (once I clean and bleach everything)
Your thinking just goes out the window when it comes to chicks!![]()
The big ones are about 4-5 weeks. The little black cotton balls are maybe 2 weeks old. (Try getting a straight answer out of the people at the store)
CONGRATULATIONS! Will be praying for you, your baby, and DF!!
I am working on it!![]()
Chicks are cute, but Charlie is absolutely adorable! Very alert looking boy!
That is what you get when you venture away from us. Come back home.....

i am up early this morning waiting on the sun to come up so I am watching TV. Like always nothing on that I have not seen or want to see. They have just about everything on Tv these days so why not a home farm channel showing everything from hatching eggs to raising cows and all things in between. Or even a show on the DIY channel.
Oh man, after that I don't know I could think about breakfast. How sad. Good thing you had your coffee! lolI'm dying!!
You never met my one legged one winged rooster Derby. Wonder if incan rustle up a picture of that club footed wonder... He made igly pretty
So im sitting here with my morning coffee, half awake, waiting on DF to get home from work and I hear SQWAAAWK SQWAaAaAAAaAaaaaawkkkkkkk!!!!! Apparently the great horned owl caught a chicken somewhere and is eating it alive on my shed. Blech..... The dogs are circling beneath it licking their lips catching everything that falls down. To much for me this morning.
Oh well, since DF is bringing home breakfast I don't have to cook. Guess I can go change the litter in the baby chickies pens.
Name.... name for diner ...... Texas BYC Diner (No Zombies allow)Okay Harley here is your chance to become famous on your Farm Channel. You need to come to the old-fashion diner A1momof3 is going to open. Ms. Jellybean, henless, and I will be cooking breakfast. Hung is bringing the entertainment along with Slipswife. Everyone else will be sitting around debating, laughing, and discussing ideas.
Coffee anyone? Egg coming right up!
Lisa![]()
Ok we have all of us staring in the Farming over coffee show at the Texas BYC Diner......ClovisMan will sponsor the ... I'm naked in your backyard, don't be afraid show....The only catch is...you have to do it Naked and Afraid! LOL
We were afraid we would get hail here too. We don't have a garage so my son put his car in the barn. He drives a 72 Chevelle SS and he would die if it got hit by hail..... my Mustang though had to sit out in the open. LOLIt's a one stop shop for everyone.![]()
![]()
I think that would be a cool show. Tons would watch it. It would be like a televised coop tour that some cities have.
Isn't that what the latest Survivor show is doing? I don't watch it, but it seems that is what I got from a commercial I skimmed though.![]()
T - 4 and counting!!!!![]()
We got a storm last night complete with hail. Of course my car was not in the garage.....thankfully the hail was tiny. Mostly. 0.2" of rain. Not a lot but I will take it. Everything is still dripping wet this morning and it is a bit foggy. I believe that means a trainer ride again today. :/ Hope it dries out later so I can mow the lawn after work.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Ok I'm not ignoring anyone, I will go back and catch up on all the events since I left last night through this morning but I just wanted to say I was thinking about some of our conversations this morning and I just invision this old diner where we all gather everyday and hang out. kind of like cheers but in an old diner type place, like the ones you dont see any more.
When I realized what was going on in my mind I just LOL. Why I see that in my head I don't know. But I can see Harvey and Clovisman sitting there hitting us with their quick wit and Magpies and Lisa backing them up and in walks Jellybean and we all give her a good 'o hey girl as she walks in..... Because she makes a point to acknowledge everyone's posts! Loveinghens, tjo, Gary, hungnguy, slipswife.... I know I'm miss some folks but anyway....
WOW, I need my coffee...
You won't believe what I did to my poor hen this morning.
A whole bunch of things cascaded to make her close to death many, many times this winter and spring. (Antibiotics led to crop problems, huge putrid mass in crop, once mass mostly resolved gassy crop caused by acid loving environment--i.e. fermented feed! apsiration of crop contents and on and on.) She's been in a small show cage with the other hen that had the problems since February.
With the last episode--aspirating on crop contents when I picked her up--she has been on injectable Baytril from the vet. Oh, have I learned a lot about chicken care from my poultry-loving vet over these two crop-impacted chickens! The money spent on vet visits was worth it for the knowledge I received.
Two days ago, I set up a small pen for them outside. This morning right after I injected the sick (or hopefully completely better) hen with anibiotics before I put her out in the pen, while still in my arms I heard a little thud and found an egg at my feet. The poor baby laid an egg in my arms after I had injected her with a painful antibiotic shot! Do I feel like a bully! That's what happens when you are in a rush--I ignored the body language that suggested she might be getting ready to lay an egg because I HAD to get the shot given NOW because I am late for an appointment!
Bad chicken mama!
We watch it when my hubby is home. And yes it is to make fun of them.... I mean really. I don't even want to think about how long it takes to get "things" cleaned back up once they leave those places!! LOLI don't get why half of those people don't make clothes. There's plenty in their surroundings. I've only seen a few that do. DF and I watch it because half the time we're making fun of them... Trying to smoke a snake with palm leaves, caught their cave on fire.
But, seriously. There's a camera crew.... You're not afraid, just trip them and run!
Ok, my nurse side is coming out and I am thinking How do you know a chicken has aspirated?? What are the signs?? Interesting. You won't believe what I did to my poor hen this morning.

I'll be the one with the coffee (early morning) or glass of really sweet wine-MoscatoD'Asanti-in the evening GRADING PAPERS!!
I'm sorry for your chick lossAlas our first little hatch didn't make it. Found it yesterday among the hay. But it's ok I wasn't attached yet. I think it was for the best. It was very weak and had all kinds of problems getting around; curled toes, difficulty balancing, also no interest in food even though momma was showing it what to do. After researching I learned that temperature fluctuations during brooding can cause all kinds of problems and it got very cold a few night near the end. I think the air got too cold under the brooder cage and messed up it's development. Hoping this new one does better and may yet get one more chick from Belle's clutch.
This new one came from a pretty small egg. It was nearly white, not brown like my big eggs. About like a large bantam egg, which it could be. I didn't think my big ole roo could successfully "kiss" my little bantams. Will have to wait and see. Stranger things have happened
LOVE that last one!I think it was magpie that said to dig up some grass for our peeps. Well I was out by the barn and remembered that so I pulled this up a clump and put it in their box.....
I had hung an old cabbage head up for them yesterday so u pulled it up out if the way.
So I'm taking pictures if them enjoying this treat and then .... BOOM...
Photo bomb!!!
One minute they were not there and then boom there they were!! I'm still laughing!
I bet your chickens just love you...all the rocks they could ever want...What is this grass you speak of? I could through some rocks, cactus, and sticker burrs in the coop. Ah the joys of the Texas Hill Country.
I know nobody really cares, but we had a first today. We have 9 birds and got 9 eggs, for the first time!!!
Congrats!!!!Where's the shifty eyed smiley?? I'm technically not supposed to say anything yet... To anyone we know. Not breaking the rules!. Having rough luck so far and not quite into the safety of the second trimester just yet. But, yes, were expecting around November/December.
Didn't realize fatigue and cravings started so early. But also didn't realize how many different smells I encountered daily.
Lol! When we did my daughter's 20 wk anatomy scan, I was expecting to see a baby. I didn't realize they look kinda like Predator at that stage, when they look right at you. Lol.Those featherless hatches are to die for. I'll keep y'all updated, next visit is in two weeks unless I get sick again. I should actually get to SEE the alien growing inside me then. Thanks for all the congrats though!![]()
Well the house is clean, all critters are bedded down, and my dogs are in my bed ready for me to curl up with them. Need to be rested when the in laws get here tomorrow and i am pooped. Goodnight y'all!
I read 3 page of the deer one! hahahaSo I ventured off into other regions of this forum and people are pretending they are fairies and wolves and mutant zombies and then they are actually acting it out and conversing about it....what gives with that?
