Ok so...IF I can't find a breeder, I might order from Ideal.
You need a minimum order of $25 and I don't need enough birds to fill that.
Would it be weird to throw a Cornish rock in and see if I can handle processing?
I think since that breed pretty much HAS to be processed by 6-8 weeks, it might be easier to start with?
Does that sound crazy?

nah the only thing is it has to be away from the other birds because of its eating schedule

I'm designing my coop and I keep changing my mind! Why is this so hard to just go with a design? I also put in my order and they will be here at the end of July. I'm super excited but I want to start working on my co-op and run ASAP. Think I can talk the hubby into buying a table saw? I've been wanting one for years... he got an air compressor last year so it's only fair, right? I get excited about power tools... strange I know. I love all the pics of chicks and ducks! What do y'all do with your ducks? Are they used for eggs or meat or just pets?

careful table saws are knuckle eaters believe me

No, it makes no sense! But then I don't either. I can easily cut open a body to remove infection, i can give injections, and am not grossed out by blood and pus. In lab we used live mice for tests all the time, then killed them and harvested the blood or organs we needed. But they were killed by gas chamber, we, the lab techs didnt do that part. But I have a very hard time killing my table chickens, I usually make my hubby do it. Once it has been bled out, I easily get back in there and de-feather, gut and clean the carcass. But making the actual kill is so hard. And my hubby is the opposite, he can make the kill easily, but doctoring? No way! I find it hilarious. He is OK at cleaning and gutting the carcass, he just don't know how to do it right yet, lol.

i'm right there with you i have a very hard time doing the kill with out my rubber gloves

I found a Hava Bator brand new on EBay for $48 plus shipping. So I got it. Lol. I can only imagine the kind of trouble I am going to get into hatching eggs after it arrives. But I do need to learn to use it properly before my all important goose and duck eggs get here next Feb. looks like a lot of chicken will be on the menu this year,
