Why can't the other birds have the medicated feed?  I thought it was to help protect them from coccidia?  I only feed the medicated to the chicks for a few weeks then switch them to the regular feed. I also feed flock raiser with oyster shells free choice because I have so many different age groups.  Don't know if it's the best feed or not or if it has any GMO or soy in it...I need to check, but my hens are healthy and the eggs are good and shells are strong and the chicks that hatch are fine.

Ducks and geese eat more feed for their body weight and get overdosed on the medicine. This can cause problems and death.

Magpie I have been told that if youve never wormed your birds then they have worms. You wont always see the worms but you might want to de worm them. I heard de worming 2 times a year is good. Due to a very nice couple, I have another chance at saving my birds. So when they are clear I plan do de worm before placing them in their new coop.

Thanks...do you recommend anything in particular for the job? I guess the eggs would be no good also. I'm getting 6-10 eggs a day, I hate the thought of wasting all those eggs, but if it's best for the birds then I'd do it.

Is there anything natural or does it have to be a "poison"?

im sorry are these ducks or chickens? I havent dewormed my ducks either, im still learning on ducks, however I have 2 different types of dewormer that I could use for chickens

Lisa of the Fresh Eggs Daily blog uses ACV in water, fresh minced garlic and food grade DE in feed. I read another blog post of a lady who mixes 2% DE on one day's feed once every 2 months and never has worms. Both did not give up the eggs during/after. I'm going that route with mine.

ok well one dewormer is wazine another is something for goats, but u have to inject it in thwir mouth. That may be a little harder. Wazine I think goes in the water, but both there is a withrawl period for meat and eggs. Maybe check up on what roosting robin said, maybe that will work better for you. Shoot if its truely harmless and true there is no egg withdrawl. Ill use it lol

I just checked Lisa's book. Here is the recipe she gives for wormer.

1 bulb fresh garlic
1 cup raw, unsalted, unshelled pumpkin seed
1 cup raw old old fashion oats
1 cup dandelion greens
1 cup nasturtium flowers
2 tablespoon black strap molasses
1 cup water
Blend in food processor until fine and paste consistency

Feed free choice or mix with scrambled eggs or oatmeal

She states that the seeds of veggies like pumpkin and squash have a worm paralizer in them.
She also recommends feeding chickens garlic and mint year round as worm preventative...mine get mint but thought garlic would carry to the eggs like onion does to milk when cows eat onions.
Anyway...going to try the natural method first and see what happens.
