What breeds do you like for best egg production and size and also tolerate the heat well?  I have a flock of heritage breeds who are pretty to look at and lay pretty eggs but now I need to ramp up production to keep up with demand of family and neighbors.   Also who lays well in both heat and winter?  Or two breeds of which one lays well in summer and the other in winter?

I accidentally got some brown leghorns and they were wonderful egg layers.

This is my yokohama pullet. I have still been tossing names around for her. She is very flighty.

leghorns are the laying queens but in the winter i would say a speckled Sussex or Plymouth rock and it really depends on the chicken you have some do or don't lay in the winter. if you want chickens to lay in the winter add extra lighting to the coop and insulate it well; almost any chicken will lay though the winter but this burns out the chicken laying ability's faster. Also some rhode island reds lay in the winter (they also lay well in the summer and are good with heat) so it is up to you

I am waiting for eggs from the four wyandottes I hatched this spring. They will be 6 months on the 26th of Sept. I now have 9 peeps in the brooder to add some color and quantity of potential eggs that are expected at work and by neighbors ...

Ameraucana, Orpington, marans and Plymouth rocks all do very well for me

I have those breeds on hand. They're five months old so some should start laying in a month or so. So maybe they will help me get to what I need. I need to get six dozen a week minimum. I have 22 hens. Only seven are laying now. I get between 2 & 4 eggs a day. Most days on the low end. I want at least a dozen a day. I don't want to do too much artificial light in winter so slow is okay if I have enough hens. I have space for 30 hens. Got Orps for better winter laying. May add some sexlinks or Leghorns. A breed that lays bigger eggs would offset fewer too. All of the eggs have been more medium sized. Except the Orp. She lays large eggs. About 4 a week.

I get about a dozen eggs a day. I have 24 hens, a 5 BRs, 6 RIRs, 1SLW, 6BOs, and 6BAs. The BAs are just now coming into lay. I am very pleased with there production. Though I'd like some EEs to add some color to my egg basket.

My geese are currently laying out of season, and 2 of my ducks really want to go broody, lol.

My egg count so far today, 11 chicken eggs, 2 goose eggs, 2 duck eggs. I will most likely get 1 more goose egg, and 2 more chickens before lockup tonight.
