my faverolle hen was pretty reliable. My rooster was a real gentlemen, always giving his girls the best treats, and he was a great protector, and he didn't over breed his hens even though he only had three adult ladies.

What do you do about all the water in your run and coop?
I use the "deep litter method" in my open air coop/run using my fall leaves, grass clippings, woodchips etc. Never a muddy muck, never an odor and it gives them something to scratch and work through searching for bugs and goodies.

I thought that was what I was doing by adding hay but it just made a wet mat! No trees around to get leaves (just planted some). Have to figure something out!
I used the deep litter method with the pine flakes. Even then, I would run a pitchfork through it about once a week to keep it turned over and so the wetter parts could dry out. I am thinking that maybe hay packs easier. Might try adding some of the pine flakes and giving it a good toss with the pitchfork. Also might mean you need to address some drainage issues, like making sure the water is directed away from around the coop. That could be as simple as using a hoe to pull some drainage paths that direct the water away or do you need some sort of gutters to direct it away? Hope this helps!!!
