7 EE's,, 1 EE Roo, 3 Plymouth Barred Rocks, 2 buff orpingtons, one EE Plymouth barred rock baby chick roo. I like to call the EE Plymouth Bared Rock mixed baby Roo, ("Future Dinner"). Right now, he is a little McNugget that needed netting over the cast iron bin he lives in, because he can leap to the top since he was 2 weeks old.

I have some EE eggs under a broody hen that I am guessing (hoping) Lucky Fertilized. So, there might be about 4 or so baby EE's looking for home soon.

I may be interested in those EE's. et me know what is hatched. Not set up for chicks but, if I get time, I can build a brooder.

If they hatch, assuming they re fertile, it should be about mid month or the 21 day mark. I would be happy to give them to you if they do hatch.

I caved to the kids and bought some chicks last night. My sense of adventure, brought to you by 3 doe-eyed girls. We have a RIR named Rosie, a Delaware named Gladys, an Ameraucana named Bunny, and a Black Australorp named Scarlett JoHENsson. I set up a heat light and a Rubbermaid in the coop. They are doing great, and so darn cute.

Good for you!!!

I learned a lot by watching them grow. Their behavior and temperament as they grew was interesting. One thing I learned real quick is them little suckers grow fast. I was glad my coop was finished because they outgrew my five by three foot brooder in three weeks. They are now 16 weeks old.

I have a question for you chicken experts out there.
I have 14 pullets and 2 cockerels. They are Barred Rock, Australorp, and Welsummers. They are 16 weeks old. I have had my nest boxes blocked off with landscape fabric from day one.
My question is should I remove the fabric at 18 weeks or should I wait till they actually start laying. My gut instinct tells me to remove the fabric and go ahead and put straw down and a golf ball or fake egg in the nests to show them where to lay.

Any and all info much appreciated!!!

David,

Take away the fabric. Get them all set up. At sixteen weeks old they're going to start looking for the best places to lay. They'll be encouraged by a comfortable, quiet box big enough for them to turn around in. Adding fake eggs, golf balls, light bulbs, all of those things will be very helpful.
