Texas

It was beautiful here yesterday. Looks like another great day in store. Upper 50's this morning. Makes it so nice to work on the coop. Now if the water will just dry up a little more then I can mow the yard.

I'm with you on mowing. I'm going to do the front yard today and hopefully by tomorrow or Wed I can do the back yard. We finally put our patio cover back up. It was sitting in the middle of the yard upside down. So now we have shade again and just in time. I took my kids to Lake Georgetown and he swimming beach was closed because it's underwater. Oh well they still had a blast and it's great to finally be able to get out even with all the Mosquitos!

This week I am putting the chicks outside. I still need to make improvements to their house but they should be okay as long as we don't get a bunch of rain. I also need to build them a little temporary run so the dogs and ducks will leave them alone. I'm so happy to have some sun for a while!

We too have much yard work to do. the front yard might be good with about 2 more days like yesterday, The back yard however is a mucky yucky mess! it might need a month of dry time before I can cut the grass

. But this is Texas so it will most likely bake dry.

We have been talking for years about bringing in dirt to raise our ground level due to run off from our neighbors, I Think with this being the wettest May on record that kinda synches that plan. However the softening of the clay here has made it possible for me to bury my old friends. Viper 15 yr. old dog May 9 We buried him on mothers day. and Hairy 3 yr. Silkie Roo May 18. The Silkie I think got sick from all the rain and he passed just before the future girlfriends I ordered him arrived, They got here May 20th. Any way the grass here is growing like weeds and you know what they say *Everything is bigger in Texas* that includes the yard weeds. I hope you all have a blessed day and get a chance to enjoy the sun Shine!

Sun Shine! Sun Shine! iLife the rain. We needed it. I love the sun too! A balance would be nice? I got to actually clean the coop out this morning. Putting sand in it helped w/ the muck and the smell. Also helped with the flies.

Just got caught up with all the posts over the weekend. Glad everyone one is starting to recover from all the rains.

We were busy, no significant rain since Friday morning. Saturday things were still a bit soggy, but we managed to move the chick tractor out of the super muddy spot by sliding it along some boards. Then we put wheels on the heavy end of the hen tractor and used a hand truck to pull it over near the chicks. Had to remove the roof to move it. Next step is to take down the old goat pen to reuse the chain-link fencing and t-posts to make a combined run for them. Also need to put in an outdoor run for some ducks we gave a home to. Currently have a small area for them where they can see and hear the chickens and guineas, but is a good distance away. Going to enlarge that then move it closer to the chickens after a few weeks.

The poults and new chicks seem to be doing well too, although I think one of the poults has a partially prolapsed vent. Trying to figure out what to do for him.

The big run will allow them all to get know each other before they get integrated into the big coop we are planning. Going to rotate which group is out in the run, but they will be able to get close to the others while being separated by wire.

Was able to get some mowing done Sunday morning. However it is already to the point I need to mow the other areas again. Too much work to get done around here, and not enough cool hours to do it in.
